Ignition system

Overview

Described in this guide cars series Patrol / Maverick equipped with one of two types of ignition systems. On models with engines 4.2 liters mounted ignition system with distributor conventional interrupter contacts, whereas l models 3.0 uses an electronic distributor. Both distributor driven by the camshaft via a helical gear and equipped with vacuum and centrifugal correctors ignition timing. L models 3.0 additionally equipped with thermal vacuum valve (TVV) control the operation of the vacuum-proof-reader. The valve prevents the supply of vacuum to the equalizer until the distributor until the engine has warmed up to the desired temperature.

The distributor model to 4.2 liters for interrupting power supply to the primary circuit of the ignition coil a mechanical breaker contacts. The electronic distributor instead of breaker contacts using a sensor control pulses and control the primary current of the ignition coil provides the switch. At interruption of the power supply in the secondary winding of the coil is induced by high voltage that is applied to the spark plug wires for explosives through the slider valve. On l models 4.2 to further enhance the ignition voltage during start-up of the engine is used ballast.

Both types of valves are equipped with engine speed limitation device, consisting of a slider and a special display located below the slider. Rotor equipped with a spring-loaded sliding electrode and the switching electrode. Upon reaching the engine speed value of 5,000 ÷ 5,400 per minute the centrifugal force pushes the sliding electrode outside, bringing him into contact with the electrode switch. Current ignition cylinders 1, 3, 4 and 6 while being guided through the electrode plate and switching the screen to the terminals BB of cylinders 2 and 5, which reduces the engine speed.
