Removal, check and thermostat installation operation



To perform the test described below need a thermometer.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  4. On l models 4.2 disconnect the thermostat housing bypass hose (models of the components of the thermostat 4.2 liters shown in the accompanying illustration).

  1. Give bolts of the thermostat housing to the engine.
  2. Remove the cover and remove the engine thermostat.

Check of serviceability of functioning

Visual inspection is often sufficient to determine the serviceability of its functioning. For example, taken from a cold engine with the thermostat fully open valve undoubtedly defective and should be replaced.


PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure that the cold thermostat valve is closed and securely pressed spring.
  2. Attach the thermostat to the wire and push together with a reliable thermometer in a container of cold water. Ensure that no thermostat or the thermometer does not touch the walls and bottom of the vessel (see. Accompanying illustration).

  1. Start slowly heat the water in the vessel, watching the thermometer. Record the reading at the start of opening the valve of the thermostat.
  2. Continue to heat the water to a full opening of the valve, measure the height of the lifting of the valve disc above the seat. Compare the results of measurements of the temperature and height of opening the valve with the regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). And when the limits of replace the thermostat.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure that all sealing surfaces are completely clean, without any traces of liquid gasket.
  2. Put on the sealing surface of the thermostat housing pillow sealant section Ø 2 ÷ 3 mm.
  3. Ensure that the sealant was laid on the inner side of the bolt holes.
  4. Install the thermostat housing to the engine.

Available special pads for mounting a thermostat casing. The drafters of the Guidelines in order to avoid the development of leaks is recommended to use a spacer is mandatory, if the state of the mating surface of the housing is poor.

  1. Fill the cooling system with coolant and check for leaks.
