Ignition System Check

A warning

Voltage generated by the ignition system, is much greater than the voltage from other vehicle systems. When working with the ignition Be particularly careful. Persons who have a pacemaker implanted, not allowed to work near the circuits and devices of the ignition system and test equipment.

The condition and serviceability of devices and equipment of the ignition system must be checked, referring to the relevant sections.

General examination

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. High-voltage wires of spark plugs should be checked every time you replace the candles. If necessary, remove the ignition distributor.
2. Before removing the high-voltage wires, make sure they have a numbering indicating wires belonging to this cylinder.
3. Remove the wire holding lugs and not the cord, to avoid separation from the conductive core wire tip
4. Check for corrosion within the ferrules, corrosion is usually found in the form of a white powder. Again, put the tip in place, and ensure the reliability of its fastening on the candle. If the contact is unreliable, then remove the cap and gently bend the adapter inside the tip, achieving tight encirclement output candles.
5. Wipe the entire wire. It does not use a wire to bend or stretch.
6. Disconnect the opposite end of the wire from the ignition distributor, pulling the tip. Check for corrosion at the tip of the part of the distributor and tightened, entered the same way as when checking a tip from the candles. Measure the resistance of the wires connecting the ohmmeter to a conclusion by the candles and to segment site inside the distributor cap. After checking the wire put in place.
7. Check the other wires in the same order.
8. If you want to replace the high-voltage wires, get a set of new cables, which corresponds to the type of vehicles and engines.
9. Remove the screws that secure the cover of the distributor. Remove the cover and seal. Wipe the cover completely and check inside and outside of the lid cracks, traces of surface breakdown (the thin charred paths), deterioration and burning of contacts.
10. Check the wear embers, their freedom of movement under the action of the springs and reliable contact with the slider. Check the condition of the seal and the distributor cap, if damage is found, replace the seal. Remove the screws and remove the distributor roller slider, check the condition of the slider.
11. When replacing the high-voltage wires it is recommended to replace the slider and the distributor. When replacing the old cover, disconnect the wire and insert a new cover on the same place from which it was removed on the old cover. Never mix old to get out of the cover two or more wires, otherwise they can properly install and violation of the order of cylinders.
12. Firmly press in the slider on the roller distributor, tighten the screw. Place the gasket and install the distributor and tighten the screws. Install the cap.
13. Even if the status of the distributor does not inspire no doubt, on some engines can still sometimes be seen hard starting, due to moisture accumulation in parts of the ignition system. In this case, an effective measure is the use of aerosols to ensure dissipation of moisture or water repellent coating hermetic coating.
