Cooling

The cooling system is a closed type, comprises a radiator, a thermostat, a centrifugal water pump, an electric cooling fan, hoses and switches. The pump is driven by a belt from the crankshaft pulley.

The system operates as follows. The coolant water pump is supplied to the engine block and cylinder head, entering through the intake manifold and carburetor heat sink stove in the thermostat housing.

When the engine is not warmed up, the coolant flows back from the thermostat housing to water pump. When the coolant reaches a certain temperature, the thermostat opens and the coolant flows through the radiator upper hose. At that time, cooling liquid is circulated through the radiator is cooled by air flow when the vehicle is moving. If necessary, cooling fluid also helps electric fan. After reaching the bottom of the radiator liquid is cooled and the cycle is repeated.

At normal operating temperature of the engine coolant is expanded, and some of it gets through a thin tube that is connected to the neck of the filler plug radiator expansion tank. After the system cools down, meeting the cooling liquid in the tank is returned to the radiator.

On some models, the cooling fluid also flows through the oil cooler.

Electric fan (s) cooling, located in front of the radiator thermostat is controlled by a switch. At a certain temperature of the cooling liquid switch turns the fan.

A warning

Do not attempt to remove the radiator filler cap or relocate any part of the cooling system at a time when the engine is warmed up, as there is a high risk of burns. If the radiator filler cap must be removed before the engine and radiator cool down completely (although this is not recommended), it is first necessary that the pressure in the cooling system has fallen. To avoid burns, cover the pan with a thick piece of cloth and slowly loosen it up until you hear a hiss. When the hissing sound stops, indicating that the pressure has dropped, continue to slowly unscrew the cap as long as it can be removed. If hiss persists, wait until it is completely gone. All the time when you open the cork, try to keep your hands and face at a safe distance.

Do not allow the situation to antifreeze got on your skin or on the painted surface of a vehicle. Immediately rinse with water spillage. Never let the antifreeze was near you in an open container or formed a puddle on the road or on the floor in the garage. Children and pets are attracted a pleasant smell of anti-freeze, and if it hits him in the interior, it can result in death.

If the engine is warmed up, the electric fan can begin to rotate even if the motor is not running. Watch your hands, hair, loose clothing when working with the motor.

See subsection 5.2 for taking precautions when working with models equipped with air conditioning.
