Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Loosen the wheel bolts.
3. Lift the front of the car and establish on support.
4. Remove the wheel.
5. Install additional support under the floor near the Dirt cover the outer CV joint.
6. Remove the upper protective cover 4 (see. Fig. The front suspension) from the strut 1 from the engine compartment.
7. Loosen the nut 3, holding the shock absorber rod using the hexagon.
8. Remove the restrictive washer 2.
9. Unscrew the nut 23 fastening of the stabilizer 5 (only on models Golf Carat, GTI, GTO with a sports chassis and Jetta).
10. Press off track rod ball joint (see. Pp. 6-8 sub-section 8.2).
11. Remove the caliper brake 41 and hang it on the wire (see. P. 11-12 sub-section 10.7).
12. Stroke circuit 19 bracket mounting strut to knuckle 27 for precise positioning of the further installation.
13. Remove nuts with fixed washers 20 and remove the two bolts 18 with fixed washers.
14. Lower wishbone 15, pull the upper end of the strut 1 of the holes in the mudguard body, and then remove the strut 1 to the knuckle 27.

Dismantling

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Fix the lower end of the strut in a vise.
2. Set the special adaptation for compression of springs 1, 2.
3. Compress the spring until the cup when the top 8 (see. Fig. of the spring 5 is free to rotate.
4. Loosen the nut 6, holding the shock absorber rod 4 by means of the hexagon.
5. Remove the support pillar 7.
6. Remove the upper spring cup 8.
7. Label the upper end of the spring for correct installation later.
8. Remove the spring with a special device.
9. Remove the compression buffer 9.
10. Remove the protective cover 10.

Checking the technical condition of the shock absorber

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check the condition of the shock absorber, the piston moving the entire length of the course. If you find jamming or absence of resistance during the stroke, as well as will be seen traces of the shock absorber fluid leakage, shock absorber struts must be replaced.
2. Clear springs from dirt and check them carefully. In the presence of cracks or deformation of new spring turns replace. It is recommended to replace both springs included.
A warning

There are eight size groups of springs. Should be replaced with new springs with the same designation and color coding.


Assembly

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. strut assembly is carried out in reverse order.
2. Spring 5 during the installation should be compressed using a special device.
3. tighten the screws 6 to 40 Nm.

Setting


A warning

Nuts 20 (see. Fig. The front suspension) with fixed washers replaced. If you have previously installed the nut with flanges, then replace them with fixed nuts and washers with the screws 18.


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the bracket 19 (see. Fig. The front suspension) to the knuckle 27, to enter into the hole mudguard body upper end of the strut 1, set screws 18 and profit new nuts 20.
2. Set a restrictive washer 2.
3. Install a new nut 3 to 60 Nm.
4. Install the bracket 19 to the previously made marks on the knuckle 27 and tighten the nut 20 95 N ?� m (or torque 80 Nm for nuts established until February 1990).
5. Install the caliper 41 (see. P. 9, sub-section 10.7).
6. Install the ball joint (see. P. 7 sub-section 8.2).
7. Tighten the nut 23 fastening of the stabilizer 5 (only on models Golf Carat, GTI, GTO with a sports chassis and Jetta).
8. Set the upper protective cover 4 on the strut.
9. Install the wheel and lower the car to the ground.
10. Tighten wheel torque of 110 Nm.
11. Check the wheel alignment (see. Subsection 9.1.7).
