Engine

On vehicles "Golf" four- and five-cylinder mounted petrol engines. On four engine cylinders are arranged in one plane, and five-cylinder engine the cylinders are arranged in two planes at an angle of 15 ? to each other. Engines are arranged transversely in the engine compartment. Left and right engine rubber mounted in bearings located on, whereby the engine can swing like a pendulum. Such a suspension of the power unit reduces the transmission of vibrations to the vehicle body.

Engine Block 1.4 and 1.6 liters is made of aluminum with cast-iron cylinder liners inserted. In other engines crankcase is made from gray cast iron. Cylinder head in light alloy and is bolted to the cylinder block. The cylinder head pressed steel guides and valve seats. To the bottom of the cylinder block of the engine oil pan is attached to which drains oil needed to lubricate and cool the engine.

In gasoline engines, the cross-flow scheme is used in which the fuel mixture flows into the cylinder chamber on one side of the engine, and the exhaust gases are removed from the other side of the engine. With this arrangement significantly improves the filling of the engine cylinders with a mixture of fuel and removal of products of combustion.

ENGINE 1,4-I

This engine is installed for each cylinder, two intake and two exhaust valves. The drive valve by two camshafts. One camshaft operates the intake valves and one camshaft - discharge. Drive the camshaft operating final valves, made toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley. The drive camshaft operating intake valves is carried out by a toothed belt camshaft operating final valves.

ENGINE 1,6-I

The camshaft is installed in the cylinder head and is driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley. Management of intake and exhaust valves mounted vertically, made cams camshaft via hydraulic tappets.

ENGINE 1,8-I

This engine per cylinder installed five valves - three intake and two exhaust. The drive valve by two camshafts. One camshaft operates the intake valves and one camshaft - discharge. Drive the camshaft operating final valves, made toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley.

The drive camshaft operating intake valves, made a chain from the camshaft operating final valves. Increasing the number of valves per cylinder improves filling of the cylinder and removing the air-fuel mixture combustion.

ENGINE 2,3-I (VR5)

The engine VR5 five cylinders arranged in two planes at an angle of 15 ? in one block. Two camshafts mounted in the cylinder head, driven chain. Each cylinder is installed on one intake and exhaust valve.

ALL ENGINES

Adjust the valve clearances is done automatically using hydraulic pushers, manual adjustment is required.

For the supply of oil to metal parts of the engine oil pump. On engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters of oil pump chain is carried out by the crankshaft. On engines 1,4-I oil pump mounted in the front cover of the crankshaft and drive it is carried out directly crankshaft. Under the pressure of the oil supplied to the channels and bearing crankshaft and camshaft.

The water pump is mounted on the side of the cylinder of the engine and the drive toothed belt it is carried out, and on the five-cylinder engine - a V-belt. Or V-ribbed belt as auxiliary drives the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. Keep in mind that the engine cooling system must be filled all year round with a mixture of antifreeze and water with a low lime content.

Preparation and ignition in the cylinders of the engine air-fuel ratio control system of the engine is carried out, which does not require adjustments. Ignition timing and idle speed is regulated by the engine management system. During the maintenance is necessary to replace the spark plugs and air filter element.

A warning

The radiator fan may turn on after turning off the engine and ignition, so when working on the engine is hot, be careful. To the radiator fan does not turn on, disconnect from the engine cooling fan electrical connector.
