Replacement of the internal hinge of equal angular speeds

Details of the drive wheels
Fig. 221. Details of the drive wheels: 1 - thrust ring; 2 - a lining with a protective film (removed before installing); 3 - the internal hinge of equal angular speeds; 4 - spring washer; 5 - right hollow drive shaft; 6 - left drive shaft; 7 - a collar; 8 - a protective bellows; 9 - a collar; 10 - spring washer; 11 - an adjusting washer; 12 - a lock ring; 13 - the external hinge of equal angular speeds; 14 - 12-sided nut; 15 - a bolt, 45 Nm; 16 - a collar; 17 - Shim; 18 - a protective gaiter with cap

Fig. 221 shows a wiring diagram wheel drive. Attention is drawn to the following:
- Internal and external constant velocity joints (CV joints) must also be greased, disassembled for inspection. For lubrication use only grease, used by Volkswagen (G 000 603);
- Protective bellows inner constant velocity joint is mounted on a hinge, so it will have to be removed to replace the cover. The outer cover is secured with clamps. The text mentions rubber bellows, in reality they are not made of rubber, and of a special material;
- Clamps for fastening covers using special pliers. Therefore, before replacing the hinge should be familiar with Sect. 9.3.
When disassembling the shaft, proceed as follows:
- Clamp the drive shaft in a vice;

Removing the snap ring using the special pliers

- Using special pliers VW 161a (Fig. 222) to remove the snap ring with a belt inner CV joint;

Removing the protective cap is straight

- Using a mandrel, gently knock off the protective cover from the hinge cover (Fig. 223). The mandrel should be alternately installed at various points around the circumference of the cap in order to prevent buckling;
- Set CV joints under pressure and squeeze the shaft of the hinge;
- Removed from the shaft spring washer. Pay attention to the peculiarity of its installation, as the puck is convex. The larger the diameter adjacent to the hinge. In addition, the puck has internal splines;
- Check all parts of the hinge for wear and damage. Excessive play causes noise when driving a car, so this should be replaced by a hinge assembly;
- To establish a spring washer onto the shaft so that the bulge on top, ie, larger diameter must be adjacent to the hinge and internal splines washer must be aligned with the splines of the shaft;
- Press on the hinge shaft, the shaft bottom must rely on the support;
- Inserted in a groove a new snap ring. If necessary, install the clamp used in the repair of the water pump;
- Put in the hinge 90 g of the above grease. Half the volume of lubricant on the one hand lay half - the other. Install the cover on the drive shaft. Carefully place the protective cover on the hinge with a mandrel. In accordance with the instructions of Sect. 9.3 fix fixing collar case.
