Disassembly and assembly of the outer constant velocity joint
If the car has high mileage, the hinges may be worn out. Excessive backlash in the joints is manifested as noises during acceleration and deceleration. You can also hear the creaking when moving from place while turning the wheel. These joints must be immediately replaced. Replacement of the wire, as described in Section. 9.2.2. To disassemble the hinge must do the following: - Mark the position of the inside of the hub with respect to the separator and the housing;

|
- Clamp the shaft in a vise and tilt hub with cage, as shown in Fig. 228. Pull alternately ball studs. Ball joint fingers each matched with high accuracy, so they can not use in other joints;

- Expand the separator as shown in Fig. 229 as two rectangular slots are aligned with the edge of the housing. Remove the separator from the hub; - Expand the hub so that one of the projections has entered into one of the rectangular slots in the separator and remove the hub from the separator. Fig. 230 shows the relative location of the two parts.

All the removed parts to check for excessive wear, cracks or signs of seizure ball fingers. Brilliant place (contact area of balls) does not mean that the joint must be replaced. When assembling the constant velocity joint, proceed as follows: - Thoroughly rinse all parts with kerosene; - Put in the hinge of about 45 g of grease; - Insert joint separator to the hub; - Ball studs installed at opposite ends, making sure that they have taken the original position in the separator and the housing; - Insert a new joint thrust ring; - Lay inside the hinge 45 g grease; - Set on the hinge cover and fix its collar. To tighten again use the device as shown in Fig. 227;
