Check the details of the crankshaft

Carefully check the crankshaft for damage and make accurate measurements of the necks of the main and connecting rod bearings. Cervical main bearings and crank pins can chisel three times, after which they are installed bearing shells smaller (repair) size.

Measuring the runout of the crankshaft
Fig. 442. Measuring the runout of the crankshaft

Hold crankshaft in a lathe (fig. 442) or hold both the shaft journal in a prism and with the help of the indicator, measure the beating in the middle neck. The beating should not be greater than 0.06 mm. Otherwise, replace the shaft. Currently, there is no way changes the crankshaft.
Measure the runout of radical bearings and connecting rod bearing, if the car with the shaft has been a great run. At the service station for this purpose ?Plastigage? - plastic wire, but experience shows that it can be difficult to acquire. If you do not have the opportunity to acquire such a "measuring wires", the same operation can be done in another way, which is described below. If you spend stopped using ?Plastigage?, proceed as follows:
- Thoroughly clean the bearing shells and put them in bed bearing cylinder or rods. Good paste "noses" of bearings in the guide;

Put a piece of wire ?«Plastigage?» in the direction shown on the necks of bearings
Fig. 443. Put a piece of wire ?Plastigage? in the direction shown on the necks of bearings

- Put a piece of ?Plastigage? on the neck of each main bearing (Fig. 443, indicated by the arrow) and set the main bearing cap with attached bearing pads. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 65 Nm. After this, no longer rotate the shaft;
- To check the connecting rod bearing clearances Fit the connecting rod to the crank pin of the crankshaft, and put ?Plastigage? on top of the crank pin of the crankshaft. Install the bearing cap with a liner (again note the correct location of "guiding noses") and tighten the nuts to a torque of 30 Nm. Since the shaft can no longer rotate, the measurements are made at two connecting rod bearings are in the BDC;
- Unscrew the cover on the main bearing; on the connecting rod bearings in turn loosen both covers;

Measurement of the flattened wires ?«Plastigage?» with the help of the measuring range
Fig. 444. The measurement of flattened wires ?Plastigage? with the help of the measuring range

- With the help of the measuring range, the supplied ?Plastigage?, measure crushed strip of material at its widest point, putting a line on the plastic strips (fig. 444). If this value is greater than 0.17 mm for the main bearing and 0.12 mm for the connecting rod bearing, install new bearing shells, given previously made or not grinding necks.
If you do not have plastic wire ?Plastigage?, and you do have some experience of these measurements, the beating of main and connecting rod bearings can be measured as described below, that will allow you to draw the appropriate conclusions.
Install bearing caps with bearing inserts embedded in the cylinder block, and tighten the bolts to 65 Nm. Always make sure that the liners were installed in their original locations. If the measurements rod bearing, insert liners rods and covers of rods and tighten the nuts to cover the old 30 Nm.

Measure the diameter of the bearing pads inserted using the indicator. Measurements are taken in the direction of A and B, as well as in the direction of 1 and 2
Fig. 445. The measurement of the diameter of the bearing pads inserted using the indicator. Measurements are taken in the direction of A and B, as well as in the direction of 1 and 2

Measure turns bearings - the measurement circuit on Fig. 445. Pay particular attention to the direction of measurement A and B, as well as the measuring point 1 and 2. Record the measurement results of each individual bearing.

Measure the diameter of the necks of the crankshaft bearing. Take measurements at locations shown by the arrows. Cervical rod bearing can be measured in the same
Fig. 446. The measurement of the diameter of the necks of the crankshaft bearing. Take measurements at locations shown by the arrows. Cervical rod bearing can be measured in the same

In turn, measure the diameter of the bearing journals of a micrometer. Here again, note the place of measurement specified in the figure. 446 arrows. Record the measurement results of each neck bearings.
The results of measuring the diameter of the bearing inner diameter subtract from the bearing bore. As a result, you will get the beating of main and connecting rod bearings, the value of which must comply with the above values.
In order to check the beating of the connecting rod bearings, a cranked shaft and measure the following two cervical crankpins, as it was described.
