The assembly of pistons and rods

To properly assemble the connecting rod to the piston and install the engine in position, use the previously applied markings. If you have replaced the piston, check that all the pistons of the same type.
When assembling the piston and connecting rod follow these guidelines:

Marking the bottom of the pistons before their removal
Fig. 130. Marking the bottom of the pistons before their removal

- Arrow on the piston crown (either painted or embossed if new piston) must point in the direction of the front of the engine (see. Fig. 130);

Assembling the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing caps. The arrows indicate the projections

- Cast lugs on the connecting rod and connecting rod cap (see. Fig. 56) must point in the direction of the crankshaft sprocket;

Fig. 55. Marking of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap

- Marking cylinder number (see. Fig. 55) must be the same for the connecting rod and connecting rod cap.
The assembly of pistons and rods performed as follows:
- Heat the piston to a temperature of 60 ? C (for that place it in hot water) and pick up the mandrel, which is to come into the piston pin;
- Heating rod;

Install the piston pin with a mandrel
Fig. 133. Installation of the piston pin with a mandrel

- By hand with the help of the plug insert piston pin into the piston and connecting rod heated (Fig. 133). If the piston is very hot, it can be wrapped with a cloth;

Details of connecting rod and piston group

Details of connecting rod and piston group 1 - the piston rings; 2 - a lock ring; 3 - the piston pin; 4 - piston; 5 - rod; 6 - bolt connecting rod; 7 - bearing rod; 8 - cylinder block; 9 - a cover of the bearing of a rod; 10 - a nut of the connecting rod; A - mark on the connecting rod and cap; The - the position of the cast lugs

- Install the snap ring 2 (see. Fig. 132) on both sides of the piston pin 3, and make sure they are firmly in the slots;

Checking the smooth running of the connecting rod
Fig. 65. Check the smooth running of the connecting rod

- Check: After connecting rod assembly is free to move back and forth (see. Fig. 65). It should move smoothly, should not feel any jamming;

Removal of the piston ring with a puller
Fig. 58. Remove piston rings with special tool

- Lubricate the engine oil groove on the piston and piston rings with special pliers to install the piston rings (see. Fig. 58) set in the piston ring grooves. If the ring is marked ?Oben? or "Thor", the ring sets the mark up (to the bottom of the piston). Compression piston ring is easy to confuse. For this reason the need for pre-installation view cross-section;

Removal of piston rings by the metal strips
Fig. 59. Removal of the piston ring by means of the metal strips

- If the pliers to install the piston rings do not have, you can use the metal strips (see. Fig. 59). To do this, put a ring on metal strips, and move them to the level of the piston grooves. Then, remove the metal strips and install the piston rings into the grooves.
