All models are described in the manual car brands equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission (shift) gear (Manual transmission) or a four-speed automatic transmission (AT). All information on AT is contained in this Chapter . Manual transmission of information can be found in Part A manual box of a gear change of this Chapter. All-wheel drive models are also equipped with a transfer case. Information on transfer case shown in Part Transfer box Chapter.

Given the complexity of the structure of AT and the need for special equipment to perform most of the procedures for its maintenance in this chapter mainly includes a general description of the procedures for troubleshooting, maintenance, adjustment and removal-installation.

However, the procedures for removing and installing the transmission is quite capable of the average mechanic-fan, which can significantly reduce the costs of plumbing work at the time of transmission repair.

Transmission type AW-4 is only used on models 1993 Vol. Transmissions 42RE, 42RN 46RN and have a similar structure (but different from the design AW-4) and are used on models from 1994 MY. Moreover, the transmission and 42RE 42RN used only in conjunction with 6-cylinder engines, while 46RN installed on all models equipped with engine V8.

If you own a model 1994 Vol., Equipped with 6-cylinder engine capacity of 4.0 liters, then your car will be installed transmission type or 42RE or 42RN. The simplest way to determine the type of transmission is its examination of the bottom of the pallet crankcase the prior lifting and secure the vehicle. Sump type transmissions 42RE quite shallow and have an inverted camber on the right at the bottom; pallets transmissions 42RN deep and flat-bottomed.

All models since 1995, vol. transmissions equipped with type 42RE.
