Replacing the gland

Transmission Leaks often occur as a result of wear of the seal extension transmission housing or transfer case (models 4WD) and / or O-rings speed sensor / speedometer nozzle. Procedures for replacing these stuffing boxes and sealing rings are relatively simple, since it does not require removal of the transmission or the transfer case (AWD model) from the vehicle.

Gland extension housing / transfer case

Gland is located in the extension housing at the rear of the crankcase at the transmission or transfer case, where it is connected to the propeller shaft. If there is suspicion of leakage through the gland Poddomkratte car and establish it on props. If the gland actually leaking, the front of the propeller shaft will be traces of the transmission fluid. Fluid may also drip from the back of the transmission / transfer case.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the propeller shaft (Chapter Clutch and transmission line).
  2. Using a hammer with soft brisk gently knock back the dust shield (if provided) and remove it from the transmission. Be careful not to bend the screen.
  3. Gently prying pliers, remove the seal from the rear of the transmission / transfer case. Try not to damage the splines of the output shaft of the transmission.
  1. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove or mount the gland from the rear of the transmission or transfer case (careful not to damage the splines of the secondary transmission shaft).
  1. If the gland can not be removed with a screwdriver or a mount, use the pliers (ask in shops of automobile accessories).
  1. If the gland can not be removed with a screwdriver or a mount, use the pliers (ask in shops of automobile accessories).
  1. Using as a drift tube segment or a very deep replaceable head, install a new oil seal. Make sure that it fully seats in its nest.
  1. With the help of a piece of pipe or deep replaceable head, Put in place a new oil seal; refill it into the slot perpendicular to the end and make sure in the fullness of landing.
  1. Install the dust screen, gently pounding it. Lubricate the splines of the secondary transmission shaft outside of the sliding sleeve of the cross of light grease, then replace the propeller shaft. Try the installation process does not damage the propeller shaft of the new oil seal lips.

Sealing rings vehicle speed sensor (VSS) / nozzle speedometer

Assembling VSS / speedometer nozzles located on the left side wall extension transmission housing 2WD models, or on the rear wall of the transfer case 4WD models. To determine the signs of leaks through the O-ring check for signs of transmission fluid casing drive cable.

Assembling VSS / nozzle speedometer located on the rear of the transfer case (model 4WD, shown in the picture) or on the left side of the extension transmission housing models 2WD. To remove the assembly disunite an electric socket (1), mark the position of the assembly in relation to the crankcase (2), and then take the bolt (3).

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector VSS.
  2. If you intend to replace the old tip of the speedometer, mark its position with respect to the surface extension of the transmission housing or the transfer case; If the nozzle is replaced when you install the new must take care of the correct orientation of its digital indicator - See below. (P.
  3. Give sensor bolt and clamp attachments.
  4. Remove the nozzle and VSS speedometer.
  5. Inspect the connector pins are VSS. If necessary, they can be cleaned using a special spray for cleaning the electrical contacts.
  6. Remove the old O-rings from the sensor and nozzle.
  7. Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces of the flange and nozzle housing - necessary for the purpose of proper alignment of the nozzle when it is installed.
  8. Install the O-rings on the nozzle and VSS.
  1. Using a small screwdriver or a rod with a hook at the end (as shown in the picture), remove the old O-rings; Try not to damage the surface of the grooves for installation.

Components of a typical assembly VSS / speedometer nozzle mounted to the transmission.

The components of two representative assemblies VSS / nozzle speedometer mounted on the transfer case.
  1. Lubricate the sensor O-rings and transmission fluid nozzle.
  2. Install VSS to the nozzle of the speedometer. Tighten with demanded effort fixing screw.
  3. Set the tip of the speedometer gear.
  4. If the new tool, install it before the assembly with a sensor (VSS) count the number of teeth on the gear speedometer.
  5. Lubricate the teeth of the gears of transmission fluid.
  6. Install VSS assembly packed in elongation transmission housing or the transfer case.
  7. If you are installing an old head, just take care of the combination of landing labels (applied in the process of dismantling) on the flange of the nozzle and the surface of the housing extension transmission / transfer case. When installing a new nozzle should rotating it, to ensure that deposited on the surface of a numerical index whose value corresponds to the number of gear tooth, turned in a rotated position at 6 o'clock.
  1. Numerical signs on the wall of the nozzle speedometer, corresponding to different numbers of teeth of the speedometer gear (on different models can be used various types of gear); when installing the pointer corresponding to the number of teeth applied to this vehicle speedometer gear must be turned to the 6 hours.
  1. Install the speedometer and the clip attachment screw. Tighten the clamp screw to the required torque.
  2. Connect the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the jacks and lower the car to the ground.
  4. Perform trial runs, checking the work of the speedometer, then make sure that there are no signs of leakage through the packing extension crankcase transmission / transfer case, and O-rings VSS / nozzle speedometer.
