Airbag (SRS)

1 - the airbag module;
2 - coil spring;
3 - node airbags;
4 - a control lamp of a pillow of safety.

To maximize the effectiveness of the SRS (additional security) based on the airbags must be properly adjust the seat and steering wheel, as well as to wear a seat belt. In the event of a collision sensor detects a shock load exceeding a predetermined value, and includes generators, which fill the air bags to protect the driver and passenger.

The airbag is filled with a strong frontal impact. The airbag is designed so that it produces gas immediately after it is filled, so as not to overlap the charts. The airbag does not work when striking the side or rear, and rollover of the vehicle.

System malfunction can be detected with a test lamp airbags.

In good condition lamp is turned on when the ignition is switched on and off in 6-8 seconds. In the event of a fault lamp blinks or stays on.

Actuation Systems

Type of vehicle collisions: frontal impact or a blow at an angle of 30 ? at a higher than specified below speed.

The speed of the vehicle in a collision: depends on the hardness of the object with which the collision takes place. If the object is rigid (not deformed), the system operates at a speed exceeding 25 km / h, under strictly head-on collision.

A collision with a hard object at a speed of 25 km / h corresponds to a collision with another vehicle at a speed of 50 km / h.

The conditions under which the system does not work:

- Side impact;
- Hit from behind;
- Rollover;
- Hit a curb;
- Blow from the bottom when driving at high speed on rough roads;
- Collision, when the key is not in the ignition switch (not energized).

System Components

The system includes the airbag module, control unit, warning lamp, wiring and assembly of the coil spring.

Airbag control unit

Airbag control unit operates on the basis of measurements in a single point. It consists of an acceleration sensor and a safety sensor. The unit records the pulse of shock and includes the airbag. Components:

- CPU and memory;
- Additional power supply;
- Acceleration sensor and safety sensor.

The airbag is activated, and when an acceleration sensor, and safety sensor detects the impulse shock sufficient to turn. Auxiliary power is provided in case the collision of wires are disconnected from the battery. The system performs a self test electrical components and connectors with the help of the CPU. When the fault warning lamp airbags, and fault code stored in the internal memory. To read the contents of the memory you want to use an external module diagnostics. Necessary functions for interaction with such diagnostic module provides the control unit.

The airbag can only work if the key is in the "ON" (ON) or "battery" (ACC). To maintain the system, you must install the key to the "LOCKED" (LOCK) or remove it from the ignition, disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal and wait for at least 1 minute. You should carefully tighten the bolts to the specified torque to the control unit or the bracket is not moved, such as in an accident. The tightening torque should be at least 8 Nm.

Airbag Warning Lamp

Airbag Warning Lamp turn on when you turn the key from "ACC" to "ON" for 6-8 seconds. At this time, it produces a self electrical components and connectors of the system. If no fault is found, then 6-8 with the lamp off, and in case of failure - stays on or flickers.
Self-tests and during the drive, and if necessary, a warning is issued.

If the key is in the "ON" and the light does not turn on, check the warning lamp, instrument cluster and the entire system. When the ignition is to be checked, whether the lamp, because the system does not issue a separate notice.

Wiring and assembly of the coil spring

Posting transfers energy to the batteries in the airbag control unit. It provides power to activate the airbag in a collision - for the driver's airbag - through a coil spring, and for the passenger airbag - directly.

Driver Airbag Module

Driver airbag module is installed in the steering wheel. Its design is such that the airbag is filled with a strong frontal impact and immediately releasing the gas, so as not to block the view and do not interfere with driving. The module is not subject to maintenance if left out of the airbag gas or require its repair, replace the entire module assembly. The module includes a generator, base plate with locking ring, cushions and steering wheel cover.

Built with a spiral spring

Connector with a spiral spring incorporated in the combination switch, providing a reliable connection between the driver airbag module to the wiring of the vehicle and at the same time without interfering with the steering wheel while driving. Connector with a spiral spring embedded in the combination switch can be replaced only in the single assembly.

Generator

The airbag module is filled with a collision as a result of ignition of the solid fuel which is released during the combustion of nitrogen gas. Detonator included electric shock and ignites the ignition amplifier, which in turn ignites the fuel pellets. Filter radiator cools and filters the nitrogen gas entering the airbag.

Mounting plate with a retaining ring

Mounting plate with a retaining ring assembly is used for fastening the airbag to the generator and their sealing compound.

For fixing the housing and install the entire module on the steering wheel serves as mounting bracket. These parts are the components of the airbag module, and are not subject to maintenance.

The cover on the steering wheel

Under the hood is the airbag unit. When the air bag ruptures the cover at the perforation. The cover is a component of the SRS, is not subject to maintenance and repair.

The passenger airbag module

The module front passenger airbag is installed in the instrument panel just above the glove compartment. After removing the glove box, you can access the four mounting screws of the airbag module. Unscrewing the screws, you can pull the airbag module from the instrument panel, and then disconnected from the vehicle wiring. The module is not subject to maintenance if left out of the airbag gas or require its repair, replace the entire module assembly.

The passenger airbag module is significantly larger driver airbag module as to protect front seat passenger airbag in a collision must fill in more cabin space. Because of this difference in size generator passenger airbag module is larger in size and has a cylindrical shape.

Electrical system

Airbag system is powered directly from the battery. The system can operate in any position of the ignition switch, including "off" (OFF) and "LOCKED" (LOCK).
The system can also operate if the driver's seat is free. The electrical system has three main functions:

- Detects a collision;
- Testing the system to determine its availability;
- Supplies current to the detonator.
The electrical system consists of:
- The airbag control unit;
- Monitor diagnostics;
- Sensors (impact and safety);
- Device backup power;
- Airbag warning lamp;
- Wiring and connector assembly;
- Assembly of the detonator.

Before replacing components

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a wire from the negative terminal of the battery and insulate it.
2. Wait at least 1 minute to discharge the redundant power supply unit.

A warning

The electrical circuit operation of the system is powered directly from the battery. To prevent inadvertent operation and possible personal injury, before servicing the system or replacement of any component of the battery should be turned off and a backup power source - discharged.

3. Disconnect from the coil spring.

Prohibition of disassembly and repair wiring components

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disassemble the components of an airbag system for maintenance is not provided. If the module diagnostics detected a fault component, after checking the connectors and wiring should be replaced with the appropriate component. Do not disassemble any components.
2. If the test of conductivity revealed an open circuit, replace the wiring. Do not attempt to repair the wiring.

Working with airbags

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Do not use an ohmmeter to check the airbag module. This can cause accidental triggering airbags.
2. Placing a workable airbag module on any surface, always place its shell up to reduce the movement of the unit in the event of inadvertent operation.
3. When carrying bodied airbag module always send him a shell of himself, to prevent injury in the event of inadvertent operation.
4. Working spent airbag module, wear gloves and safety glasses, since the exhaust air bag module can be caustic soda - a byproduct of the reaction gas generation.

Using probe

PERFORMANCE ORDER
When checking the probe is used as a thin wire so as not to damage the connector.

Exhaust air bag

For the maintenance of the car in which the airbag has been deployed, spent the airbag must be replaced by a new one.

Exhaust air bag should be removed as follows.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. The deployed air bag unit should be left for about 15 minutes to cool down as the temperature is very high.
2. Do not expose the used air bags with water.
3. Working with the used bag, always wear gloves and goggles.
4. The exhaust air bag can be disposed of in the same way as any parts to be recycled.
5. When finished, wash your hands with water and mild soap.

A warning

Working with the used bag, take precautions. After the operation on the surface of the airbag can be caustic soda - a byproduct of the reaction generating gas causes irritation to the skin.

Faulty Airbags

If the fault diagnosis revealed the airbag, the airbag fault should be replaced by a new one. This airbag can not simply be thrown away. It must be returned to the KIA motor company for proper disposal. Do not try to bring the airbag into action, return it in accordance with the instructions supplied with the replacement airbags.

Disposal of car

In some vehicles, the damaged or worn to the extent that they can not be repaired, can be quiescent airbag. This can occur when hitting the back or side, rollover, or operation of the vehicle after the establishment of the resource. Before disposing of the vehicle airbags should be brought into effect in accordance with the procedure described below.

Remote actuation of the airbags

This procedure should be used to prepare for the recovery of a vehicle with an airbag not worked, but it does not apply to vehicles where the wiring is damaged or missing components.

A warning

Remote activation of the airbags must be carried outside by staff who are not closer than 6 meters, for security and because of the loud sound, which is accompanied by operation of the airbag.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove the air bag from the steering wheel in accordance with the instructions.
2. Cut the airbag connector and remove the insulation from the ends of the wires 25 mm.
3. Connect the wires to the airbag module two wires of at least 6 m.
4. Place the airbag shell up on a flat surface in a remote area, for example, in the parking lot or in the field.

A warning

Do not place the airbag sheath down, because the force of impact when it is triggered, can cause a ricochet and cause injury.

5. Staying at a distance of not less than 6 meters, bring the airbag into action by connecting the other end to a car battery with a voltage of 12 V.
6. In case of a successful actuation hear a loud sound, and will be visible cushion material. Before you go to the airbag, wait 15 minutes for its cooling and dispersion of combustion products.

Airbag worked and can be disposed in the usual manner.

Refitting

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Place the front wheels to the center position.
