Disc brakes

WARNINGS
Always replace all the pads on the same axle of a vehicle, even if only one is worn out. If the old brake pads set again before removal they are necessary for marking.
Work with brakes each wheel in turn, if necessary brake assembled on the other wheel will act as the original.
Remember that when the brake pad is formed from the dust of attrition, which contains asbestos, unhealthy.

Replacing the brake pads
Remove the cover from the brake fluid reservoir and pour about 1 liter of brake fluid.
Loosen the bolts of the front wheels, lift the front of the vehicle securely on supports and remove the front wheels.

Remove the two caliper mounting bolts (Fig. 10.2).
Turn the support upwards, taking him from the brake disc. Keep the caliper arms or secure it with string or wire suspension at the front, so it does not hang on the brake hose.
Screwdriver, remove the retaining clips and remove the outer brake pad. Remove noise insulation lining the back of the brake pad.
Remove the inner brake pad, lifting it out of the carriage, and remove noise insulation lining.
Inspect the cover slide gently turning back the edge of the cover, and check for fluid leaks. If a leak is detected, remove a support for major repair or replacement.
Press the C-shaped clamp to lock the piston in the caliper.

Install noise insulation pads new brake pads (Fig. 10.3).
Position the inner brake pad and snap it on the piston.
Insert the outer brake pad and snap it back into the caliper.
Lower the caliper in place.
Replace the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
Repeatedly press the brake pedal to the brake pads have been established with a certain gap in relation to the brake disc, and then fill the brake fluid reservoir.
Establish wheels and lower the car. Tighten the wheel nuts to torque.
Avoid hard braking as much as possible, in the first few hundred kilometers of the car until the new pads do not pritrutsya completely.

Removal and installation of a support
Withdrawal
If you need to remove the caliper from the vehicle, remove the brake fluid reservoir and pump out 2/3 fluid volume.
Loosen the nuts of the front wheel, lift the front of the vehicle securely on supports and remove the front wheels.
If you need to remove the caliper from the vehicle, remove the hollow bolt of the brake hose to the caliper.
Remove the two screws and remove the caliper from the vehicle. If there is no need to remove the caliper from the vehicle, secure it with string or wire at the front suspension to support not hang on the brake hose.
Setting
Inspect the bolts for the presence of corrosion and rubber sleeves and covers for tears and damage, replacing them with new ones if necessary. Before installation grease contact surfaces of bolts and bushings lubricant lithium-based, clean blankets.
Position the caliper relative to the brake disc and a rotary fist and fix bolts, having tightened their demanded moment.
Connect the brake hose (if removed) and tighten the banjo bolt. If the brake hose is detached from the caliper, remove the air from a hydraulic drive of brake system.
Make sure that when you turn the front wheel from one extreme position to another brake hose is not in contact with the elements of the front suspension and bodywork.
Establish wheels and lower the car to the ground. Tighten the wheel nuts.
If you do not require the removal of air from a hydraulic drive of brake system, repeatedly press the brake pedal to the brake pads have been established with a certain gap in relation to the brake disc.
Check brake fluid level, if necessary, make up for it.

A WARNING
Pre-purchase brake caliper repair kit for your car model.

Support repair
Remove the caliper and brake pads. There are two methods of extraction of the piston out of the caliper. When connecting brake hoses, brake pads removed the piston can be pushed using the hydraulic pressure of brake fluid and replace the brake pads wooden bar. Take care not to get your fingers caught between the piston and the caliper. The assistant should slowly depress the brake pedal to push the piston out, as you prepare for the pressure of the brake fluid at the exit of the piston.
Clean the outside of the caliper brake fluid, denatured alcohol or using purification plants brake system (never use gasoline or kerosene), then place on a clean work bench support.
Remove the bleed hole.
If the piston has not been removed, remove it from the slide, which supply air at low pressure in the brake cylinder through an aperture for connection of a brake hose, brake pads, instead of setting a block of wood. Use the air pressure is only sufficient for ejection from the piston opening. If the piston off with great effort, even if a block of wood is left in place, the piston may be damaged.

A WARNING
When using compressed air to extract the piston never keep your fingers in front of the piston in an attempt to catch or protect it, so you can get seriously injured.

Remove the clip and dust seal from the hole piston calipers.
Using a wooden or plastic tool, remove the piston seal from the groove in the cylinder support. Using metal tools may cause damage to the cylinder support.
Remove the dust covers, guide pins and bushings of the caliper ears.
Clean the remaining parts with brake fluid. Wait until all the brake fluid drained and then shake vigorously details to remove as much liquid.
Carefully examine the piston and the cylinder of a support for the presence of notches, burrs, traces of corrosion and abrasions. If the detected surface defects, replace the parts. Capable of processing cylinder calipers with fine sandpaper to remove traces of corrosion and easy spots. Inspect the bolts, pins and bushes for signs of corrosion and damage, to the extent necessary, replace worn parts.
When assembling, lubricate the piston and seal the hole with clean brake fluid. Apply lubricant red from repair kit to seal the piston.
Install the seal groove in the cylinder of a support.
Slide the dust seal on the piston. Apply lubricant of the orange color of the repair kit in the dust seal, then install the piston and dust seal in the support cylinder. Install dust seal retainer.
Screw in the caliper bleed hole.

Lubrication sheaths, guide pins and pin slide
Fig. 10.4. Lubrication sheaths, guide pins and pin slide

Lubricate the dust covers, guide pins and pins lubricant orange and set the caliper (Fig. 10.4).
Apply a small layer of lubricant on the brake shoe lining (number 817 549 248 specification Mazda) or a special noise insulation composition. Do not allow the lubricant to the friction surface. Install the brake pads.
Install the caliper and remove air from a hydraulic drive of the brake system.

Brake disk
Lift the car and secure on stands.
Remove the wheel.
Remove the brake caliper.

WARNINGS
No need to remove the caliper from the vehicle, and after reversing of the caliper mounting bolts secure it with string or wire at the front suspension. Do not hang the caliper brake hose, as this may cause damage to the hose.
If you need to replace the brake disc, replace both to ensure uniformity of braking. When replacing the brake discs must be replaced and the brake pads.

Slowly turning the brake disc, visually check the condition of the two sides. Wear pads on the brake disc must be within acceptable limits. If the disc is cracked, replace the drive.

Using a dial indicator to measure the runout of the brake disc
Fig. 10.5. Using a dial indicator to measure the runout of the brake disc

Indicator of hour type check up palpation of a brake disk (Fig. 10.5). Secure the indicator in a convenient place and, turning the brake disk, define its palpation at a small distance from the outer edge. Before checking the heartbeat of the brake disc, make sure that the bearing in good technical condition. If the runout exceeds the maximum, and the bearing is OK, remove and pereshlifuyte brake disc. Some workshops may be reground brake disc without removing it from the vehicle.
Disc check for cracks, especially around the holes for the bolts fastening the wheel, as well as deterioration or mechanical damage, if necessary, replace it.
Measure the thickness of the brake disk at several points. Due to the fact that the perimeter of the brake disc has a step, when measuring the thickness of the brake disc with caliper sheet under his jaw two coins. To determine the true thickness of the brake disc caliper readings subtract the thickness of two coins.

Measurement of thickness of a brake disc using a micrometer
Fig. 10.6. Measurement of thickness of a brake disc using a micrometer

More accurately measure the thickness of the brake disc using a micrometer (Fig. 10.6).
If fluctuations in the thickness of the brake disk exceeds 0,127 mm, braking may occur ripple. If the thickness of the brake disc has sufficient pereshlifuyte and remove the brake disc.
To remove the brake disc from the hub you need to use special tools and techniques, so it is necessary to remove the hub with the brake disc and deliver it to the service station for the treatment or replacement.
