Check the brake system
The faults in the braking system may indicate the following features: the car pulls to one side when you press the brake pedal; I heard the creaking of brakes; excessive travel of the brake pedal; pulsation of the brake pedal, brake fluid leaks and other. Front and rear disc brakes PERFORMANCE ORDER | | 1. Check the brake pad thickness through the hole in the caliper (arrow). | | 2. Check the thickness of the outer brake pad. | | 3. To accurately check the thickness of the brake linings and their status, remove the brake calipers and brake linings. Clean the pad (2) and check the thickness (3) and the condition of the friction material (1). | 4. Measure the brake disc with a micrometer. Inspect the surface of the disk for deep scratches or grooves. | | 5. Check all the brake lines and hoses for signs of damage or wear. Check the fixings and connections. |
Rear drum brakes PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Remove the two screws in the center of the brake drum and remove the drum. | 2. Clean the brake mechanism using brake cleaner. | | 3. Measure the thickness of the friction material brake pads. If the height of the material above the heads of rivets or less than 1.5 mm total thickness of the friction material is less than 3 mm, the block must be replaced. | | 4. Check the condition of the brake mechanism springs. Inspect the wheel cylinder for signs of leakage. Check the integrity of the cylinder covers. Check brake lines and connections. | 5. Inspect the inner surface of the brake drum for cracks, deep scratches and signs of wear. | 6. Similarly, the check mechanism of the brake on the other side of the vehicle. |
Check of the vacuum brake booster PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Depress the brake pedal and start the engine - the pedal should fall a little. | 2. With the engine running depress the brake pedal several times - the course of the brake pedal should not be changed. | 3. Depress the brake pedal, stop the engine and hold the pedal down for 30 seconds - the pedal should not fall. | 4. Start the engine, let it run for a few minutes and stop the engine. Depress the brake pedal a few times - the pedal course should decrease with each pressing. | 5. If the brake pedal behaved differently, then the vacuum amplifier is defective and should be replaced. |
Hand brake PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Count the number of clicks necessary for reliable setting the parking brake. Adjust the handbrake if necessary. | 2. Check that the handbrake could keep the car on a steep slope. |
