Fan

The fan is used to increase the intensity of the radiator cooling air. The more intense the airflow, the more intense heat. Depending on the model and configuration for engines installed electric fans or fans with viscous coupling. Both fans are mounted directly in front of the radiator and included as needed.
The fan with viscous coupling

Viskomufta sectional

Viscous coupling (Fig. 4.50), filled with silicone oil is located in the middle of the fan impeller and operated bimetallic plates. In the bimetallic strip has a steel pin which is at an ambient temperature of about +85 ? C opens the passage of oil in the working chamber. The viscous silicone oil creates a frictional connection between the pulley and the fan, under the influence of which the latter begins to drive the air.
During cold engine clutch is almost disengaged - oil stored in the spare space, so energy consumption at no ventilation. The fan speed is lower than 1000 min -1. It varies with the speed of the engine, but only at low speeds. Upon reaching 4500 min -1 triggered safety valve that limits the speed of the fan in the region of 3300 min -1.
Check the fan with viscous coupling

SEQUENCE OF WORK
.
1. On the engine off, check the fan can move freely.
2. Make sure that the fan was not strong axial and radial play.
3. Check the viscous coupling in the absence of traces of oil. If the oil is there, it must be replaced.
4. On the heated engine and hood of a closed set RPM 3000 min -1.

5. The coupling (Fig. 4.51) should start coolant temperature 90 ... 95 ? C. Otherwise, replace the clutch.

The fan
The fan is only installed on 4-cylinder engines. Cooling system 4-cylinder engine immediately "loaded" when the engine is idling or, for example, when driving on mountainous terrain. If you suddenly start periodically warning lamp coolant temperature, it indicates fan failure. In this case, you can continue driving to the place of repair, after allowing the engine to cool. The motor should not experience heavy loads, and as little as possible to idle.

A WARNING
When stopped, the engine is hot but still do not hold your hands in the area of the impeller! The fan can start and switch off the ignition.

Check of the fan
SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Check the fuse.
2. Disconnect the plug from the socket, located near the thermostat housing.
3. Jumper wire plug. If the fan is running, it means, defective thermal switch. If does not work - faulty fan or the cable has broken.
4. To continue the movement Jumper plug and seal it. Also, to avoid short-circuit and dirt, insulate mate.
5. During prolonged standing or parking is required to remove the jumper wire in order to prevent battery discharge.
