Switches

Electrical circuit breaker is closed the corresponding device. The E-Class car company Mercedes-Benz has used a completely new generation of switches. All buttons, rotary, sliding, pressure switches and other ergonomic and easy to handle.
Combination switch
Management blinkers, wipers and light signal S THE Implemented by a single shift paddles on the left side of the steering wheel. There is also a body of light control: hand combination switch, dim and fog lights, rear fog lights, headlight beam adjustment.
This switch (symbol ?S4? on the wiring diagram) - a truly complex mechanism, as it is supplied to at least 12 wires and cross-connected in different ways. Such a combined switch installed on previous models of Mercedes. During the years of operation there was the following problem: when worn Turn signal switch is no longer fixed. In this case, a combined switch be replaced. Attempts to modify the locking system often brings only temporary relief.

The center console
Fig. 10.7. The center console

All important control switches are located on the center console (Fig. 10.7). For convenience, the switches are divided into functional groups:
the top row of switches are driving the rear head restraints, central locking and alarm system;
located in the middle of the block of management of heating, air conditioning and recirculation button;
at the bottom of the center console are the block switches to control electric windows, door lock for child protection and control keys outside mirrors.
Looking up, you can see the new control unit interior lighting and sliding roof. There is also a ventilated sensor heating and air conditioning.
Electronic engine start
Switch the system - almost the most important in the car and also a new development. Electronic ignition switch - the main essence is clear from the title. The ignition and the ignition key in the traditional sense in the Mercedes E-Class is no more. They were replaced by a complex electronic system, which replaced the conventional mechanical key device with multiple functions. The main difference between the electronic key - no metal beard: to start the motor in the slot wedge is inserted into the ignition switch and turn to the right tab. Everything else carries electronics. On models with automatic transmission she carries out the starting procedure until the engine starts.
However, the first within the ignition switch passes takes a split second control process, during which the electronics automatically checks if the correct key is inserted into the lock. For this switch inductively provides power to the key, which in response transmits a coded infrared signal. The microprocessor compares the ignition switch to the code stored in the memory of value and according to the electric lock releases the steering wheel. Now, the key can be turned to the right to turn on the ignition. Electronic key codes and stored in the processor memory value at every restart replaced and re-stored.
Check the ignition switch is more convenient to carry out from the connector under the steering column. As the symbols on the switch, you can see which contacts are connected with the appropriate key position. If problems occur, replace the ignition switch to the service station, because to remove it and remove the steering column requires special tools.
Security systems (admission)
In December 1994, the company Mercedes-Benz equips all models as standard security system with electronic control that meets the more stringent requirements of the law and the Motor Insurers. The main element of the new security system is an infrared remote control, designed in the form of an electronic door key. To start the engine the car door must be opened beforehand using this remote key. Otherwise, the engine management system will remain locked and the engine will not be able to start up.
A small transmitter in the key emits invisible infrared light, combined with the radio signal to several receivers located inside the door and the interior rearview mirror. The received and processed signal is transmitted to the control unit in the engine compartment. There's a signal recorded in the memory, it generates a new code that will be needed for the next (or later), open the doors and start the engine. At the same time there is an exchange of data with the engine control unit for locking and starting system, central locking door lock.
Switch alarm
Button switch alarm when the lights a little lamp faintly illuminated. This is because the lamp is supplied with voltage via a resistor. When you click off of the resistor chain and the light begins to shine in full power flashes.
Check switches
If during troubleshooting of electrical equipment, check the switch, first locate it on the chart, and then check the connection. To do this, you can either use the lamp-sampler and check for voltage, or ohm meter in the removed state. In most cases, the first method is preferred. Check whether the probe needle lamp to get checked in wire connectors. If not, the tip can pierce the insulation. DIP switches can be removed only after the dismantling of cladding. Other switches are bolted. Many switches in the car are internally illuminated. Unfortunately, these lamps can not be changed except the light switch.

SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Needle probe lamp can pierce wire insulation to check their voltage.
2. Have on hand the appropriate wiring diagram.
3. First check whether it is the voltage applied to the switch. To do this, turn on the ignition and lighting.
4. Next, check whether the switch sends the voltage in the corresponding position.
5. In the example of the ignition switch and starter checks should be carried out as follows:
- Current-carrying red wire from the positive terminal of the battery must always be energized;
- On wire terminals "15x" switch the ignition to go the current when the switch is in position ?I?, ?II? and the starter;
- On wire terminals "15" switch the ignition to go the current when the switch is in position ?II? and the starter;
- On purple wire contact "50" current must go only when the switch is the starter.
