Removal and installation of a camshaft

A numeric identifier indicating the corresponding modification of any size groups camshaft (above). The correct direction of rotation of the crankshaft (below) for setting the TDC
Fig. 108. The numeric identifier indicating the corresponding modification of any size groups camshaft (above). The correct direction of rotation of the crankshaft (below) for setting the TDC

Not all versions of the same engine mounted camshaft. Embossed on the shaft number, which is shown in Fig. 108 location indicates that it belongs to the particular type of engine. Camshafts so-called repair size groups (1st and 2nd repair sizes) are also provided with corresponding numerical identifier.
On the engine of your car, you can only install the camshaft, which is provided with a specific identification number. The camshaft is mounted on bearings in the cylinder head. The lower part of the bearing is molded in the form of slots integrally formed in the cylinder head, which are bolted to the bearing caps.
The camshaft is removed after fixing the bearing cap is removed and remove the drive sprocket. The front of the car properly disassembled to provide access to the necessary performance for units and parts. Removal and installation of a camshaft should be carried out in the following order:
- Disconnect the "mass" wire from the battery;
- Remove the air intake pipe;
- Remove the cylinder head cover. It is secured by bolts 6 to the top of the engine;
- The motor shaft to rotate until the first cylinder is stopped at top dead center, while "zero" mark on a belt pulley must be established opposite the mounting of the pointer. The cranking of the engine is carried out at central bolt crankshaft pulley with socket wrench with ratchet;

A warning
In no case do not try to rotate the crankshaft at central bolt of the camshaft sprocket with a wrench. Crankshaft should always rotate only in the working direction of rotation. Stopping the crankshaft in position, note the position of the label on the upper side of the camshaft, they should be aligned with each other, as shown in Fig. 102.

- Completely dismantle the chain tensioner (Sect. 2.12.1);

Labels on the drive sprocket and the camshaft drive chain
Fig. 99. Marks on the drive sprocket and the camshaft drive chain

- A camshaft sprocket and its drive circuit must apply a paint mark - two strips of one line, as shown by two arrows in Fig. 99;

Fixing the camshaft drive sprocket
Fig. 100. Fixing the camshaft drive sprocket

- Unscrew and remove with washer bolt on the camshaft sprocket. To prevent rotation of the camshaft when loosening the bolt between the spokes need to insert an asterisk strong screwdriver or a thick bolt, as shown in Fig. 100. At the same time, you can bring an assistant, who will lock the crankshaft against rotation of the flywheel from below through the sump the flywheel (torque converter);
- Remove the camshaft sprocket to hold the drive chain in a constantly tensioned position to keep her out of engagement with the crankshaft sprocket;

Removal steps of fixing bolts of covers of bearings of a camshaft four-cylinder engine

Removal steps of fixing bolts of covers of bearings of a camshaft five-cylinder engine
Fig. 110. The sequence of removing the fastening bolts of the camshaft bearing caps five-cylinder engine

- Unscrew alternately in stages bolts of covers of bearings of a camshaft and remove a certain order bearing caps with bearing pillars. On the four-cylinder engine to be followed shown on Fig. 109 sequence loosening and removing the bearing cap. First unscrewed cap bolts of the first, third and fifth bearings (bolts, indicated by black arrows) and then dispensed alternately crosswise cap bolts of the second and fourth bearings (indicated by white arrows) until disappearance of the efforts on the camshaft. In the five-cylinder engine mounting bolts circuit dismantling and removal of the bearing cap is shown in Fig. 110. The first unscrewed bolts of covers of the first, second, third and sixth bearings (black arrows) and then dispensed alternately crosswise cap bolts fourth and fifth bearing (white arrows) until the disappearance of the efforts on the camshaft;
- Lift camshaft bearings;

Persistent half rings for the axial fixation of the camshaft
Fig. 112. Persistent half rings for the axial fixation of the camshaft

- Pull the stubborn half-ring groove of the camshaft cylinder head. In Fig. 111 is a sectional view of the flange of a camshaft with thrust semicircle limiting axial backlash of a camshaft. Planting half-ring groove is shown in Fig. 112.
To check valves hydropushers they can pull out of the pits with the help of the sucker. After checking, set the tappets in their original positions.
When replacing the camshaft or the cylinder head must first be grease-lubricated roller and setting it in bearings over several times in order to identify possible locations of jamming. This work should be performed in the following order:
- Establish persistent half rings on the cylinder head, as shown in Fig. 112. If the edge of the half-rings are worn out, it must be replaced by a new one;
- Lubricate the camshaft necks and drop it on the bearing pillar of the cylinder head. Pushers for this inspection must be removed from its landing slots;
- Install the bearing caps in the correct position and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 Nm. Tightening the screws start from the middle bearing and gradually move to the edges;
- Into the threaded hole for the fixing bolt sprocket wrap M10h30 mm bolt, and then turn the bolt for the camshaft. If seems that the shaft turns tight, try to turn the mounting bolts to release the individual bearings, continuing to rotate the camshaft. When you get to the bearing cover, which caused tight rotation of the camshaft bearing cap that must be removed and measure the working air gap with the recommendations for the crankshaft bearings. The clearance in the bearings must be in the range of 0.050 to 0.081 mm. Otherwise, the cause of jamming may be partial deformation of the camshaft (when installing a new camshaft similar reasons is excluded);

Installation of a camshaft
Fig. 113. Installation of a camshaft 1 - bearing cap bolts, 23 Nm; 2 - washer; 3 - a cover of the bearing of the camshaft; 4 - landing sleeve; 5 - planting pin for camshaft sprocket; 6 - camshaft

- Camshaft again dismantled. Follow its installation can be carried out with the use of Fig. 113. This figure shows a camshaft four-cylinder engine;
- Grease-lubricated and set to the appropriate landing pits valve lifters;
- The camshaft installed in the slot and persistent half ring in the cylinder head;
- To produce a uniform, cross-wise tightening the mounting bolts of covers of the second and fourth bearing camshaft four-cylinder engine torque 25 Nm, as shown in Fig. 109. After that, set in the slot remaining bearing caps and tighten the mounting bolts to the same point;
- Crosswise, alternately tighten the fixing bolts of covers of the second and fourth camshaft bearing five-cylinder engine torque 25 Nm, as shown in Fig. 110. After that, set in the slot remaining bearing caps and tighten the mounting bolts to the same point;
- The drive sprocket together with the drive chain to put on a camshaft, having tracked in order to coincide label previously applied paint, and planting pin camshaft entered into the corresponding hole on the sprocket;
- Measure the length of the mounting bolt of the camshaft sprocket from the lower edge of the bolt head until the end of the threaded portion. If the result of measurement exceeds 53.6 mm, it is necessary to use a new bolt. Tightening of the bolts should be made to 25 Nm, previously fixed star rotation by means of a bolt (or strong screwdriver) inserted into the opening between the spokes of an asterisk, as shown in Fig. 100. After that, you need to finally tighten the bolt a further 85-95 ?;
- Mounted chain tensioner, tightened its moment of 80 Nm;

Location tags in finding the first cylinder at TDC
Fig. 102. Location tags in finding the first cylinder piston at TDC

- Check the timing marks of the camshaft for its correct installation position of the piston of the first cylinder is in TDC. The label on the camshaft must be against the projecting label to cover the first bearing of the camshaft during installation of the piston of the first cylinder at TDC. These marks are clearly visible when viewed from above the camshaft, as shown in Fig. 102;
- To establish in its place the cylinder head cover;
- All the other work done in the reverse dismantling;
- Start up the engine and check for oil leaks.
