PERFORMANCE ORDER

All the self-locking nuts and bolts must be replaced without fail!

  1. Details of the installation of rear axle assembly shown in the illustrations, which include all the links in the text.
  2. Remove the rear wheels.
  3. On models 163.174 (ML 55 AMG), empty the fuel tank (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust), additional tank tie to the longitudinal beam.
  4. Disconnect the brake line (111h) of the flexible hose (111E).
  5. Remove the support brackets brake hoses / cables (111f) with the longitudinal beams of the frame.
  6. Remove the wheel sensors (L6 / 3, L6 / 2).
  7. With proper configuration, remove the rear axle sub-frame (1) shield the exhaust system.
  8. In the right front of the panel support bracket otboltite the parking brake cable (1h).
  9. Release the crankcase ventilation hose rear differential (55) of the lock on the fuel tank - except model 163.174 (ML 55 AMG).
  10. Release nut bolts to the subframe longitudinal bracket of the fuel tank (109).
  11. Disconnect the rear parking brake cables (112a) from the regulator (110b) (see chap. Brakes and auxiliary systems).
  12. Release the rope assembly (112a) of intermediate clamps on the frame.
  13. Remove the support bracket rope assembly (112b), mounted on the left side of the floor panel.
  14. Disconnect from rear differential and tie to the frame of the propeller shaft (106).
  15. Disconnect from the subframe (1) control a bunch of (1p).
  16. On models equipped with xenon headlights, disconnect from the upper support rod level control landing (120a).
  17. Remove the lower control arm assembly of rack (6j).
  18. Squeeze the hub assembly of the upper ball joint (91).
  19. Support the rear differential assembly, - use a special device.
  20. Remove the screws (1c and 1d) subframe and gently lower the rear axle assembly, being careful not to pinch the brake cables and tubes.

On models 163.174 (ML 55 AMG) first priopustite bridge assembly and release the differential ventilation hose (55) from its holder on the wall of the additional fuel tank.

  1. Inspect the components of the assembly for signs of damage, replace the failed part.
  2. If necessary, disconnect the longitudinal beams and remove the rack assembly (6j), or the upper control arm (91).
  3. Also, if necessary, remove the frame and make replacement of rubber pillows of support suspension differential extraction / landing sleeves made using a special extractor.
  4. Installation is in the reverse order - before installing carefully smooth mating surface of the bridge (1) and the longitudinal beams, if necessary correct the deformation of surfaces, and drive out tapping the bolt holes in the floor panel under the subframe bolts (1c and 1d). Make sure that the guide pins (a) were in the receiving holes in the beams. Final tightening fasteners wishbone (if removed) only after lowering the vehicle to the ground - during installation, ensure that the assembly of the bridge took a strictly horizontal position, make sure the correct combination of landing labels on the beams (b). Do not forget about the need to perform replacement of the sealing elements choke connectors hydraulic lines.
  5. Finally, adjust the fluid level and bleed the brake path (see chap. Brakes and auxiliary systems), check the oil level in the differential.
  6. Adjust the direction of the optical axes of the headlights and adjust the suspension geometry (see. Part of the suspension geometry).
