Replacing the brake fluid and bleeding the brake system

Overview

Brake fluid is dangerous to health. Do not suck away her mouth through a hose. Store brake fluid only in the capacity to which random access is excluded children.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, ie tends to absorb moisture, so that eventually its boiling point is reduced, with considerable load on the brake can lead to the formation of steam bubbles in the brake lines and reduce the effectiveness of the brakes.

To replace the brake fluid need help assistant, but the service station, this procedure is usually carried out using a special device. When bleeding the brake system of the car must be parked on level ground.

Replacing the brake fluid and bleeding the brake system

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the electrical activator ABS.
  2. Remove the cover from the brake fluid reservoir (?4 in the illustration Components engine compartment).
  3. Mark felt-tip pen on the wall of the tank current level of brake fluid, then to prevent it from exceeding the replacement of brake pads. Evacuate the brake fluid from the reservoir, leaving at its bottom a liquid layer thickness of about 10 mm.

Do not remove all the liquid from the tank, or air to enter the hydraulic brake system and clutch.

  1. Fill the reservoir with fresh brake fluid up to the mark "MAX".
  2. Thoroughly clean and remove the protective caps bleeding nipples.
  3. Put one end of the pure transparent hose on the bleeder valve rear left brake and the other end into a container to collect the brake fluid. The container should pour a little brake fluid and constantly ensure that the end of the hose was immersed in it. Also, the capacity should be raised to at least 30 cm above the bleeder valve to provide pressure and prevent entry of air thereto.
  4. Ask the assistant to 3-5 times sharply press a brake pedal at intervals of 2 ÷ 3 and give the union on 1/2 ÷ 3/4 turn when the pedal is depressed. Once the brake pedal rests on the floor, tighten the fitting. Take your foot off the pedal. By repeating this process, pump out old brake fluid (before the advent of the new, which can be identified by a bright color).

If the bottom layer of the liquid reservoir will remain less than 10 mm, the system will have to be pumped.

  1. Tighten the bleeder valve, close the cap and refill the reservoir in new brake fluid.
  2. In the same way the old pump out the brake fluid in series of the other slides in the sequence: front right, rear right, front left.

Brake fluid is drained in any case must be clean and without air bubbles.

  1. Adjust the level of brake fluid in accordance with a pre-applied mark
  2. Press the brake pedal and check the free wheeling. Make sure the brake pedal is not "fails" when it is squeezing - free travel should be no more than 1/3 of its full stroke.
  3. On the working engine check up tightness of hydraulic brakes. To do so, press the pedal with a force of 200 ÷ 300 N (20 ÷ 30 kg) for 10 seconds. The pedal should not weaken.
  4. Finally, check the brakes on a road with light traffic. To do this, make at least one strong braking action at the same time checking the ABS. An indication of proper operation ABS is a pulsation of the brake pedal when braking.

The effect of the ABS is best seen on the roads slippery and loose cover.
