Service ignition distributor

Refitting

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Uncover the distributor assembly with BB wires.
  3. Disconnect the distributor vacuum hose and wiring equalizer plug.
  4. Turn the engine clockwise so that the slider nose turned toward the location of the spark plug wire terminals of the first cylinder. Make alignment marks on the distribution engine.
  5. Mark the position of the body of the distributor relative to the cylinder head, then give a fixing bolt and remove the distributor. Try to remember the direction in which the slider cranked and fix the final position.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check the condition of the sealing ring (s) of the distributor, replace defective.
  2. If the engine cranks after removing distributor, crank bring the piston of the first cylinder in position close to the position TDC, then achieve combination of TDC of the crankshaft with the zero mark on the scale of the distribution timing cover.

If you unscrew the spark plug of the first cylinder and tighten the spark plug hole with your finger, then at the approach of the piston to the position of TDC will be a distinct sensation of pressure.

  1. If the engine is not turned, set the slider to its original position (which he took after extraction from the engine) and set the valve in the cylinder head, achieving combination of landing labels. Screw the mounting bolt.
  2. Connect the wiring to the distributor and the vacuum hose and run the ignition timing.

Dismantling

  9. Disconnect and remove the spring.
  10. Remove the E-clips and remove the corrector weights.

Cleaning and checking the status of

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Rinse all components with the exception of electrical components and power vacuum ignition advance corrector, in a suitable solvent.
  2. Estimate degree of deterioration of the lower shaft and timing case. If necessary, replace.
  3. Check out the cam, weights and springs for signs of wear or damage. If necessary, replace.
  4. Check for wear and damage to the base plate. Replace if necessary.
  5. On models 4.2 l check the breaker for signs of wear, and cavities. If necessary, replace.

When installing a new breaker points assembly, always replace the condenser.

  1. Check the distributor cap, and the screen slider rev limiter for cracks, coal paths, burnouts and corrosion terminals.
  2. Estimate degree of deterioration of the central piece of coal. Measure the value of its protrusion.
  3. Check the power vacuum corrector for signs of leakage through the diaphragm, which push the connecting rod, press a finger to the suction tube, then release the draft. Vacuum under the finger should be kept for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Check the condition of the sealing rings, replace defective.
  5. Please rate the degree of deterioration of the driving gear.
