Rear axle and suspension

general information

The rear axle is equipped with sump type "banjo", which is located inside the hypoid final drive assembly and polurazgruzhennye axis. All models with a body type Hardtop (Hardtop) and Universal (Station Wagon), except Patrol Ti and Maverick XLT manned the main transmission assembly N233V. Main gear can be equipped as a standard ordinary differential and differential with limited slip. Model Maverick XLT, Patrol Ti and some of the main gear ST equipped with a locking differential N233V. Models with a body such as utilities (Van) and Mini truck (Cab Chassis) equipped with main gear H260 with conventional differential / limited slip.

Final drive ratio on all models except the Patrol ST and Ti with Manual transmission models with 3.0 liter engine and Maverick XLT is 4.111: 1. The gear ratio of 3.0 l models is 4.375: 1, and the models ST, XL and Ti - 3.900: 1.

Assembling the ring gear with the differential set in two tapered roller bearings and radial clearance and preload is regulated by means of special screws.

Pinion installed in two tapered roller bearings, the preload is determined by the selection established between shim thickness required. Planting depth pinion is adjusted by adjusting the shim, installed between the gear and the inner bearing cone.

Limited slip differential (LSD) continuously transmits the rotation on the two rear wheels, but redistributes the torque to the wheel with minimum slip. When one of the side gears opposite runs faster, slightly rotates the pinion gear shaft, pushing the housings of the planetary assembly, thereby increasing the load on the plates and friction discs.

Differential lock is constant (when it is locked) transmits rotation to both rear wheels is equal, regardless of their degree of slip, and controlled by a switch that directs a vacuum through the two solenoid valves in executive camera mounted in the rear axle housing.

When the differential lock vacuum is applied to one side of the camera. In this shift fork selecting and shifting the sleeve toward the differential assembly. Coupling selection slide on the spline to the casing of the differential and entering into engagement with the rear portion of the side gears, stops the rotation of the latter, thereby blocking differential. When you unlock a vacuum is applied in the opposite half of the chamber, returning the fork with the clutch in the starting position.

Differential lock should only be enabled when the rear wheels are stationary, and the vehicle speed at the moment when no more than 7 km / h.

Procedures for removal and installation of assemblies all major programs are identical, but in the case of failure of differential lock of this Guide is recommended to drive away the car for repairs in the workshop of dealer branch of the company-manufacturer of the car.

Semiaxes on models with drum brakes rear wheels are equipped with a tapered roller bearing (each) for the models with disc brakes - two tapered roller bearings. The bearing (s) each semiaxis encased mounted at the end of the axle sleeve. The housing is mounted on a half through the lock washers and nuts. Seals semi-axes are located on the outer ends of the axle housing.

The rear suspension can be carried out as springs and the helical springs.

In the first case of the suspension includes a leading rear axle suspended by semi-elliptic leaf springs (springs). Springs are mounted on rubber bushes. The front end of the spring is attached to the chassis frame by the anchor pin, rear - mounting an earring.

Shock absorbers are mounted on rubber bushes. The lower ends thereof are fixed to the support plates ladders springs are attached to the upper frame of the chassis.

Rear Axle exhibit on springs by the central bolt of the latter, and it is attached to the U-bolts and nuts ladders. The components of the rear suspension are shown in the accompanying illustration.

On vehicles with a suspension spring-driven rear axle hung by means of four longitudinal bars and transverse jet jet bar (see. Accompanying illustration).

Long stroke helical springs is controlled by hydraulic shock absorbers double acting. Stabilizer of transverse stability is established between the axle and the vehicle chassis to limit the swinging of the car body during the execution. On some models, provides remote operation of cable drive off the anti-roll stability to facilitate the movement of a vehicle off-road. The mechanism provides a free lift off the right end of the bar stabilizer lateral stability.

The chassis of the car is equipped with a rubber stopper of the compression stroke, which serves to prevent direct contact between the metal parts in a full compression coil springs.

Application Maintenance free rubber bushings at the pivot point of the suspension components can significantly reduce the issued suspension noise. Occasionally check the condition of plugs.
