Braking

The intensity of wear of brake linings depends primarily on the operating conditions and style of driving. Particularly high wear in city traffic and the operation of the vehicle mainly for short distances with frequent stops or with a strong sports-style driving. In these cases, it is strongly recommended to carry out further inspection of the control brake linings in the service enterprise a Volkswagen in the intervals between routine maintenance. On cars with a wear indicator brake pad warning lamp indicates the wear limit of the front brake linings.

When driving downhill, use a large extent the properties of the engine brake, which requires the timely switch to a lower gear. This reduces the load on the brakes. If there is a need for additional braking using a braking system, it should be applied at intervals, rather than continuously.

Which reduces braking efficiency

Moisture and salt

A warning

Under certain driving conditions, for example, long-term movement in the water, in heavy rain, and after washing the car, there may be some delay the brakes because of the presence of moisture on the brake discs and pads (and also because of the frost in winter). It is timely to dry discs and pads, activating the braking system.

Overheated brakes
A warning

Never "grind" the brake pads, pressing the brake pedal unnecessarily. This leads to overheating of the brake, lengthening the braking distance and increased wear on the brakes.

Before going on a long steep slope slow down, switch to a lower gear {manual gearbox) or select a lower gear (automatic transmission). By doing this you use the brake as the engine and brakes to facilitate the work.

When installed in the vehicle during the operation of various spoilers, mud flaps and full-size r. N. Is necessary to make sure that it does not worsen the air supply to the front brake mechanisms, otherwise the brakes will be too hot.

Brake servo (brake servo)
A warning

Brake servo operates using the vacuum created only during engine operation. So never practice the movement of the vehicle coasting with the engine off.
If the brake servo is not functioning, such as towing or faulty STI amplifier requires much stronger to press the brake pedal to compensate for the absence of additional efforts on the brake actuator produced during normal operation of the amplifier.
