Front airbags

The system front airbags, together with three-point seat belts provides additional protection of tion head and upper body of the driver and front seat passenger in the event of severe frontal collisions.
A warning

The maximum protective effect of seat belts and airbags can only be achieved with proper adjustment of the seat.

System Front air bags are not triggered when:

- Side crashes,
- Blows to the back of the car,
- Rollover
- Weak frontal impact.

The system of air bags in any case not replace seat belts, but is an essential part of the overall concept of passive vehicle safety. Please note that the greatest effectiveness of the airbags is achieved only when the joint action to put on seat belts.

System airbags consists of the following main assemblies and components:

- Electronic control system and the control of operational readiness of the system (control unit);
- Two airbags (air bags with gas generator) for:
??? the driver (steering wheel)
??? the front passenger (in the dashboard);
- Warning lamp on the instrument cluster.

Functional readiness SIR is controlled by an electronic device.

After each switching the ignition warning lamp airbags lights for about 3 seconds (self-test).

Violation of the operational readiness of the system shows the following:

- When the ignition control lamp does not light up,
- After about 3 seconds after the ignition warning light does not go off,
- After the ignition control lamp goes off and then begins to shine again,
- While moving the control lamp lights up or flickers.

A warning

As noted violation of operational readiness of the system, the system must be checked in the service enterprise a Volkswagen. Otherwise there is a danger that, if necessary, the air bags will not work properly.

Action System

The system of air bags designed in such a way that it is activated in the event of a severe frontal collision.

Dimensions sector direction of a frontal collision, at which the operation of the system shown in Fig.

When the system is activated air bags are filled with working gas and inflating, unfolding in front of the driver and passenger.

When the palm of the driver and front passenger in a fully inflated air bags movement of their bodies by inertia ahead extinguished, and the risk of injuries of the head and upper body is significantly reduced.

The air bag is designed so that in a frontal impact under load from the body of the driver, or sitting next to them in a controlled release of the passenger gas cushion to soften the blow of the head and upper body of the air bag. After the collision, the air bag becomes so empty, that does not interfere with forward vision.

The filling of the air bag occurs at a high speed in a matter of seconds, and provides the accident protection.

When inflated airbags in the cabin there is a bit of fine dust. This is quite normal and not cause for concern.

Turning off the airbag for the front passenger

On your car, you can disable the air bag for the front passenger such as when the front passenger seat fitted child seat with the child's situation rearward.

Functional readiness airbag system is monitored by means of electronic devices and disconnected cushion for the front passenger.

After each switching the ignition warning lamp SIR Approximate but for 3 seconds and then flashes for 12 seconds (self-test).

Violation of the operational readiness of the system shows the following:

- When the ignition control lamp does not light or does not blink,
- After the ignition warning lamp on the expiration of the above time, does not go out,
- After the ignition control lamp goes off and then begins to shine again,
- While moving the control lamp lights flickering or flashing.

Side airbags
The side airbags are located in the front seat back cushion and you can identify them by the inscription "AIRBAG" on the top of the back of the seat backs.

The side airbags in conjunction with three-point seat belts provides additional protection for the upper body of the driver and front seat passenger in the event of severe side collisions.

The side air bags are not triggered when:

- Frontal impact,
- Weak side crashes,
- Blows to the back of the car,
- Rollover.

The side air bags consists of the following main assemblies and components:

- Electronic control system and the control of operational readiness of the system (control unit)
- The airbags on the sides of the rear of the front seat backs,
- Warning lamp on the instrument cluster.

When a severe side impact air bag is triggered by the collision.

In special, combined types of collisions can work as front and side airbags.
A warning

All work on the side airbag, as well as assembly and disassembly device of the system while doing other work (for example, when removing the front seats) must only be carried out in the service enterprise a Volkswagen. Otherwise it can happen disruption of the system side airbags.

Between sitting in the front passenger seat and the seat of the airbag should not be placed neither people nor animals, nor the various items. In addition, the doors do not have to be strengthened any accessories such as cup holders.

Hook for hanging clothes have only small and light garments. The pockets for small items should not be any heavy objects or objects with sharp edges.

It is impossible in any case to put on any covers on the front seats that are not approved by Volkswagen. Otherwise, during the opening of the side airbags of a protective effect due to the application is not approved covers will be substantially limited.

Each system airbags triggered only once. If this occurs, the system must be replaced.
