Check of a protective cover of a power shaft

Checking the protective cover of the drive shaft

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift and thoroughly fix the car on supports.
2. Turn the steering wheel to the right or to the left until it stops and turn the wheel.
3. Inspect the rubber protective covers of hinges of equal angular speeds, compressing them for disclosing of bends. Inspect for cracks which can lead to leakage of lubricant and the penetration of water and dirt inside.
Also check the condition of fixing collars, inspect the covers of internal hinges and casings on the other side. If you found any damage, the protective cover must be replaced immediately, see. Fig. Checking the protective cover of the drive shaft.
At the same time, check the general condition of constant velocity joints, holding a shaft and simultaneously trying to turn the wheel. Please try again, holding the internal hinge of equal angular speeds and turning a shaft. Any appreciable gap indicates wear of the joint, the wear grooves in the shaft or unscrewing the lock nut shaft.
