Replacing the ball bearings

Before proceeding to replace the ball joint, it must be carefully checked (see. Sect. 12.5.4).
When carrying out work on the replacement joint unscrewing the nut of the drive shaft. Since the mass of the vehicle must not fall on the loose wheel bearing, it is necessary to turn on the nut after car installation on supports.
To replace the hinge should do the following:
- Loosen the wheel nuts and lift the car;
- Loosen the hexagon nut 12 and the drive shaft to separate the shaft from the wheel hub (see. Sec. 8);
- Disconnect the flange bolts of the drive shaft of the gearbox and remove the shaft;
- Mark the original position of the heads of the three in Fig. 262 bolts and remove the bolts;

- Turn out the wheel hub, together with the shock absorber and secure in this position with the help of a piece of wood, as shown in Fig. 272;

Use as a wedge a wooden block (1) to hold the shock absorber

- To turn on the bottom of the nut from the bolt to the ball head until the end of the nut is flush with the end of a bolt with a spherical head;
- Bring rolling jack under the outer side of the crankcase main gear and gently lift it. Jack takes the load appearing after loosening the bolt with ball head;
- To establish a stripper bolt ball joints as shown in Fig. 273, and squeeze out the bolt from the landing site at the knuckle. Screwed out until the end of the nut at the same time protects the bolt.

On the ball joint will see two tags. On the ball joint, designed for left-hand arrow should point forward with the designation of L3 (Fig. 274) on the ball joint to the right side of the arrow should point forward, designated as R4. The right hinge is marked L4 and R3.

When installing a new ball joint to do the following:
- Insert the ball joint to the knuckle;
- Screw a new nut and tighten it. It is necessary to note the following. As between the ball joints and knuckles can not install socket head with a torque wrench to tighten the nut have a flat spanner until 35 Nm. Tightening torque have determined approximately. In addition, a bolt with a ball head can simultaneously rotate. For its retention is used Allen key (5 mm), insert it in the screw joint, however, is not easy, as the curved end is too long. Thus, Allen key would have to be shortened to make it fit for use;
- Remove the wooden block and pressing the shock absorber base set in the correct position. Enter an axis while engaged with the wheel hub and at the same time to dock it with the gearbox flange;
- Screw the three indicated in Fig. 262 bolts and tighten them by hand. Then shift the control arm up until the labeled bolt heads will not take back their former places. Tighten the bolts in this position, torque 35 Nm;
- Withdraw the drive shaft on the inside to the desired position and tighten the bolts to 45 Nm;
- Tighten as specified in Sec. 8 nut and lower the car to the ground. Tighten the wheel nut torque 110 Nm.
