Brakes

Hydraulic foot brake system VW T4 consists of a master cylinder, brake booster and brake front and rear wheels. Hand brake acts via the cable to the brake pads of the rear wheels.

The front wheels are disc brakes, which, depending on the equipment, for better heat dissipation inside the blown air. The rear wheels are braked automatically adjustable drum brakes.

The hydraulic brake system is divided into two circuits running diagonally. A brake circuit is front right, rear left. Second - front left, rear right. Due to this, in case of breakage of one of the loops, yet inhibited one front and one diagonally rear wheel. Thus the machine may be stopped.

Pressure on both brake circuits created in the master cylinder when the brake pedal is pressed. Above the master cylinder in the engine compartment is the brake fluid reservoir. Hydraulic clutch and brake fluid is supplied from this tank (select models clutch but not carried out hydraulically and mechanically - through the clutch cable). All models, at too low brake fluid warning light on the instrument panel, but all the same amount of brake fluid should be checked regularly.

On cars with the petrol engine has a vacuum brake booster, which creates a braking due to vacuum in the suction pipe of the engine, an additional force on the plunger master cylinder piston is proportional to the force on the pedals.

On diesel vehicles vacuum is created by a special vacuum pump attached to the engine.

The regulator of braking forces on the rear axle ensures that under hard braking are not locked out of the rear wheels. Cars with an anti-lock system (ABS) or all-wheel drive does not have the control of braking force. The adjustment of the braking force to the rear wheels takes over the block of management ABS.

As optional equipment offered VWT4-lock braking system (ABS). The work described here apply to all VW models T4 with ABS or without.

Depending on the diameter of the wheels on the front-wheel disc brakes are installed different: a model with 14-inch wheels have disc brakes with floating caliper models with 15-inch wheels at the front are ventilated disc brakes inside a floating frame. Therefore, when replacing the brake pads apply different working methods.

When cleaning the brake is removed brake dust. This dust is dangerous to health. Therefore, when cleaning the brake system, do not breathe the dust.

Brake pads produced by the plant only for certain models of cars. Therefore it is recommended to apply the brake pads permitted only AG VW.

Works in the braking system requires the strictest purity and precision. If there is no necessary experience, you need to carry out works to entrust to specialists.

A warning

In very wet from the rain the road surface, it is necessary from time to time to press the brake pedal while driving to release the disc from the wet attrition. Although as a result of centrifugal forces, the moisture emitted from the disks, however, places a thin silicone film attrition rubber, grease and dirt, reduces the reliability of the brakes.

After installing new brake pads need to be grind braking. Up to 200 km can not be without the need to make hard braking.

Corroded disc brakes while braking effect the Rubbelya that does not eliminate even long braking. In this case, the discs are replaced.

Burnt dirt on the brake pads and grooves lead to the formation of fissures in the disk, which reduces the reliability of the brakes.
