Check and adjust the ignition timing

Check and adjust the ignition timing

1. The ignition distributor

2. The high-voltage cable 1 cylinder

3. Plug 1 cylinder

4. The compound strobe with battery

5. Strobe

6. Capacitive clamp strobe

4- and 5-cylinder engine

To check and adjust the required tachometer and stroboscope.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

A warning

Adjustment is ignition timing only after the installation of the distributor of ignition, if the ignition timing while checking idle speed or the CO content is not within the required value.

1. Turn off the air conditioning (if available).
2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. The coolant temperature of about 80 ? C.
3. Stop the engine.
4. Connect the tachometer to terminal 1 and terminal 15 of the ignition coil (high voltage transformer).

A warning

At the same time the ignition must be turned off.

5. Connect the stroboscope to the positive and negative poles of the battery. The capacitive clamp connected to the high voltage wires of 1 cylinder.
6. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose with a pressure control valve and position it so that it receives only clean air.
7. Allow the engine to idle and increased speed until the radiator fan. Then, leave the engine running at idle speed, disconnect the plug of the engine coolant temperature sensor (2-pole).

A warning

If the engine stops after disconnecting the plug before restarting connect the plug to the engine coolant temperature sensor. Otherwise the control unit will operate in emergency mode, in which the correct check and adjustment is possible.

8. Allow the engine to speed screening.
9. To direct stroboscope light in the inspection hole clutch.

A warning

There is a danger of injury to the sudden application of the fan. Before check to disconnect the connector.

10. Ignition adjusted correctly if outbreaks notch ignition timing for the corresponding label is in place.
11. If the ignition timing is beyond the reference value, to adjust the ignition timing according to a desired value.
12. To this end, a little loosen the locking screw (s) on the valve and turn the ignition distributor so that the adjustment value coincided with the corresponding label.
13. Tighten the screw (s) fixing to 25 Nm.
14. Connect the plug of the engine coolant temperature sensor (2-pole) and 3 times "to gas."
15. Check the adjustment of idling.
16. Disconnect the measuring instruments with the ignition off.
17. HUNDRED VW interrogate and erase the memory of the control unit recorded a fault. As a result, disconnect the plug, the coolant temperature sensor is recorded in the memory fault "sensor is defective." Writing in the memory can be erased and disconnecting the battery.
