Condition check, removal and installation of a brake disk

Checking the Status

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts, Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props. Remove the wheel.
  2. Remove the brake caliper (Section Removal, major repairs and installation of supports of disk brake). Now there is no need to disconnect the brake hose from the caliper (see. Tie the caliper to the suspension element by using a piece of wire. Avoid tension and twist the brake hose. A couple of the wheel mounting studs should already be installed fixing washers. If not, screw on the two of them the wheel nuts to secure the drive.
  3. Check the disc for scratches, grooves and other damage. The presence of minor scratches and shallow grooves is normal for a used disc has no appreciable effect on the braking performance, however, the groove depth over 0.38 mm require the removal of the disk and its machining in a workshop of car-care center. Do not forget to inspect the disk with both sides. If the braking pedal pulsation felt, this may be due to runout. Check also that the adjustment wheel bearings.
  4. To check the value of runout attach the dial indicator plunger-type about 13 mm from the outer edge of the disk and pressing the plunger to the surface of the disc. Reset the unit and start to rotate the disk. Indicator should not exceed the allowable limit heartbeat. Otherwise, the drive is subject to the groove in the studio Car.

The drafters of the Guidelines recommend to make a groove disc regardless of meter readings (in order to restore its surface to reduce fluctuations and other adverse events when braking, directly linked to the state of the disc). In the most extreme case, the surface of the disc, you can even just to handle with sandpaper, removing them with traces of polishing (performing rotational movements, aimed to guarantee the absence of traces of the abrasive on the treated surface).

  1. Determine the amount of runout using the dial gauge plunger type - readings should not exceed the allowable for Specifications limit heartbeat - otherwise it is subject to the groove or replacement.
  1. With the rotational movement to remove traces of polishing the disk surface with sandpaper.
  1. Annular groove of the disc should be made taking into account the allowable minimum thickness thereof (usually on the inner surface of the disk has the appropriate labeling). The disk thickness can be determined using a micrometer. If the marking is missing, refer to the Specifications to this Chapter.
  1. The minimum allowable thickness of the brake disk can be stamped (or poured) on its inner side.
  1. Measure the thickness of the disk at several points using a micrometer.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the two wheel nuts set for fixing the disk, then remove the disc from the hub. If the disc is recorded with special compressed onto the studs and washers, cut their diagonal cutting pliers and discard.
  1. If the disc is fixed to the hub by two special washers, cut their diagonal cutting pliers and discard.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Slide the drive into place on the wheel studs.
  2. Install the caliper assembly with brake pads (Section Removal, major repairs and installation of supports of disk brake). Tighten the caliper mounting bolts with demanded effort.
  3. Replace the wheel and lower the car on the earth. Tighten the wheel nuts with demanded effort.
  4. Several times squeeze the brake pads to shrink the disk. Bleeding brake system there is no need to produce, unless the brake hose is not disconnected from the caliper. Before you start working with your car, check up serviceability of functioning of brake system.
