Replacing disc brake pads

Replacement pads must be carried out simultaneously on the brake mechanisms both front (or rear) wheels - never change a pad of only one of the brakes. In addition, you should pay attention to the fact that the dust generated brakes in their work can contain unhealthy asbestos. In no case do not blow off the dust from the surfaces of the components brake compressed air and do not inhale it. The work is best done in a protective respiratory mask. In no case do not clean the brake components petroleum solvents or gasoline - use proprietary tools to clean the brakes!

The procedure is applicable for the replacement of pads as the front and rear disc brakes.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the cover from the brake fluid reservoir.
  2. Loosen the nuts of the front wheels, Poddomkratte front of the car and establish it on props.
  3. Remove the front wheels. Work with each of the brakes in turn, as an example of the second retaining assembly in the event of doubt as to the correctness of his ideas about it.
  4. Carefully check the condition of the brake disc (Section Condition check, removal and installation of the brake disc). If there is a need for carrying out machining, remove the drive (see below in this section). At the same time there is also the possibility of extracting from a support pad.
  5. Push the caliper piston in a cylinder, providing free space to install new pads (thickness greater than that of the old worn-out). To perform this task, you can use a clamp. When the piston push-ups the level of fluid in the master cylinder will lift automatically. Make sure that it does not start to flow over the edge, if necessary aspirate the excess (or enema syringe - in any case, not your mouth!).
  1. With a large clamp push the piston into the support cylinder - note that one of the clamp jaws rests in the plane on the back side of a support, and the second (movable) - in the outer block.
  1. Follow the procedure for changing pad, referring to the illustrations below. Strictly follow procedure and closely acquainted with the content of disclosures in the photographs.
  1. Before removing the caliper remove all traces of brake dust using a proprietary cleaner.
  1. To remove the slide, remove the two mounting pins (top and bottom arrows); do not give a hollow bolt (central hand) attachment to the caliper brake hose until you are ready to make major repairs caliper.
  1. Remove the caliper; Now will be the time to check for signs of leakage of fluid around the surface of the piston boot, leaks said about the need to overhaul the caliper (Section Removal, major repairs and installation of supports of disk brake).
  1. If no work caliper will not take place, tie it to the side of a piece of wire to the suspension elements - be careful to do not pull the brake hose!
  1. To remove the outer pads of brake calipers front wheel press up tabs on each side of the pad, release the clamp on pads to the caliper and remove the block.
  1. To remove the caliper from the inside pads remove the clip from the cavity in the body of the piston.
  1. Remove both sleeves of the locking pin and check them for signs of corrosion and wear; If any of the pins is damaged, replace it.
  1. If the boot pin or sleeve is cracked, torn or too dry, replace it.
  1. Lubricate the hub of high-temperature grease.
  1. Install the sleeve into place.
  1. Before installing the new brake pads squeeze the plunger into its seat in the caliper up to the stop, thereby providing sufficient space for the new dressing pad (more than worn thickness) on the disc.
  1. Enter the inner pad retainer into the cavity in the body of the piston; Make sure the latch is securely latched in the piston (block must press firmly on the piston).
  1. Install a new outer shoe, firmly pressing her ears with your thumbs as shown in the picture; Make sure the shoe properly engages in the clamps.
  1. Install the caliper assembly with a block on the disk, insert the mounting studs and tighten them with demanded effort.
  1. When installing the caliper pins into place, tighten its fastening with demanded effort. Upon completion several times strongly depress the brake pedal to the shrinkage of new shoes on the disk.
  2. Before you start working with your car, check the brake system for leaks and make sure of serviceability of functioning of brakes.
