Removal, major repairs and installation of wheel cylinders



In case of a need for overhaul of wheel cylinders (usually as a result of leaks or sticking pistons), before starting work study all possible options for its implementation. There is the possibility of acquiring new cylinder assemblies, which can significantly simplify the task. If a decision on the restoration of the old cylinders, make available repair kits for them. In no case do not make repairs only one of the wheel cylinders - always restore them to complete.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Poddomkratte back of the car and establish it on props. Block wedges front wheels to prevent roll back.
  2. Remove the shoe brake assembly (Section Replacement of boots of drum brakes).
  3. Remove all dirt and debris from the surfaces around the cylinder.
  4. Fully loosen the nipple fixing the brake line, but do not disconnect the brake line from the wheel cylinder.
  1. Fully loosen the brake line connection nipple (1), then give the bolts of the cylinder (2) (front bolt on the picture are not visible).
  1. Give bolts of the wheel cylinder.
  2. Remove the wheel cylinder with brake board and place it on a clean surface of the bench. Immediately plug the brake line to prevent fluid loss and hit in dirt system.

If the friction linings of brake shoes contaminated brake fluid, replace the shoes.

Overhaul

  1. Remove the wheel cylinder valve pumping, piston sleeves, pistons, anthers and assembly of the spacer spring

  1. Wash cylinder brake fluid or proprietary cleaners component of brake systems.

In no case do not use for this purpose gasoline or petroleum solvents!

  1. Compressed air from the cylinder blow out any excess fluid and carefully blow all internal channels.
  2. Check the cylinder bore for cracks, scratches, scuffing and corrosion. Light defects and corrosion can be removed from the bore by means of sandpaper. If this fails, the cylinder must be replaced.
  3. Lubricate the new brake fluid cuff.
  4. Assemble the cylinder. Make sure that the cuffs were installed inside the jaws (see. Illustration above).

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the wheel cylinder in its place. If the brake line is still loose, connect it to the cylinder, taking care not to warp threads.
  2. Screw fixing bolts and tighten them with demanded effort. Tighten the brake line connection nipple. Set the shoe assembly.
  3. Bleed the brakes (Section Bleeding brake system).
  4. Before you start working with your car, check up serviceability of functioning of brakes.
