Removal, check of a condition and installation of a camshaft, bearings and hydraulic tappets

Measuring the height of lobes (lifting) cam camshaft

Checking the height cam lobe is made in order to assess the degree of wear of the shaft and is performed before removal of the shaft from the engine. Remove the cylinder head cover (see section Removing and installing cylinder head cover).

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Give the first cylinder to TDC of the compression stroke (Section Bringing to TDC of the compression stroke of the piston of the first cylinder).
  2. Beginning with the first cylinder, mount a dial gauge to the engine so that it turned out to be coaxial plunger push rod and rocker arm rested on the first piston.
  1. To test the lift cam dial gauge should be mounted directly on the pusher rod and its piston - rod coaxial.
  1. Zero meter and start very slowly rotate the camshaft in the normal direction as long as the needle does not freeze on the maximum reading and will not start to fall back. Maximum meter reading corresponds to a lifting height of the cam.
  2. Record the reading, and then return the piston to TDC of the compression stroke.
  3. Set the meter over the yoke of the second valve of the first cylinder and repeat the procedure. Accurately record all measurements.
  4. Repeat the test for the remaining cylinder valve. Since each of the pistons during the inspection must be set to TDC of the compression stroke, to move from one to the other in the easiest manner of ignition (see. Specifications).
  5. Upon completion of all the measurements compare the results with the requirements specifications. If the rise of the cam is less than the allowable value, the cam is worn and the camshaft is subject to replacement.

Removing the camshaft

These models of cars equipped with airbags. Pillow is always ready and can work (inflated) at any time with a connected battery. To prevent accidental operation of the system (and to obtain as a result of injury) every time you work with the components of airbags (including the impact sensors, which can be located near the front grille / bumper) Disconnect the battery negative lead. After disconnecting the battery before you start work, wait at least 2 minutes (capacitor system is equipped with a delay, which must be fully discharged). See. Head System of an onboard electric equipment.

The air conditioning system is constantly under pressure. Do not loosen the couplings of lines or disconnect any of the components of the system prior to its discharge. Coolant must be pumped out of the system in a special compensatory and regenerative EPA-unit station dealer branch or an authorized service center. When disconnecting the lines of the system, always wear safety goggles!

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If the car is equipped with an air conditioning system, make its discharge station dealer branch or an authorized service center. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Drain the cooling system, remove the radiator, fan and its casing (Head of System of cooling, heating and air conditioning).
  3. Remove the front (radiator) lattice (Chapter Body).
  4. On models equipped with air conditioning, remove the condenser (Head of System of cooling, heating and air conditioning).
  5. Mark and disconnect the spark plug spark plug wires.
  6. Remove the distributor (Head System of an electric motor).
  7. Remove the cylinder head (see section Removing and installing the cylinder head).
  8. Remove the hydraulic tappets and put them in an organized manner so that during assembly they can be installed on the former places.
  1. Using magnetic tool (as shown in the picture) or a special puller remove pushers.
  1. Remove the electrical circuit with an asterisk (Section Condition check, removal and installation of a cover of the distribution chains, and its stars).
  2. Carefully remove the camshaft. As an arm of his end may be temporarily threaded long bolt. To avoid damage to the bearings when threading them through the cam shaft, supports the shaft of the second hand.
  1. Slowly removing, keep the camshaft second hand as close to the wall of the unit - for easy end of the shaft can be screwed into a long bolt.

Checking the Status

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. After the camshaft is removed from the engine must be cleaned with solvent and dried, then check for the presence of cervical bearing cavities traces of sticking and uneven wear. If cervical damaged and will possibly damage the respective bearing liners in the block. Replacing in this case subject to the shaft, and liners.
  2. If the neck found in a satisfactory condition, a micrometer to measure their diameters. Record the measurement results. Measure the diameter must be done at several points each neck (as the length of the cervix, and on its envelope surface) - this will help to identify its roundness and taper.
  3. Measure the inner diameter of each of the bearings by means of a telescopic callipers and micrometers. Subtract from bearing diameters corresponding to the diameters of the necks. The result will match the size of the gap in the bearings.
  4. Compare the results of calculations with the requirements of the Specifications. If any of the bearing clearance exceeds the limit, please contact the shop service center to replace the bearings.
  5. Inspect the distributor drive gear for signs of wear. In the event of such replace the camshaft.
  6. Check cam shaft for signs of overheating (changes in color with areas), burrs, chips, cavities, and traces of uneven wear. If the jaws are found in a satisfactory condition and results of measurements of the height of their lobes meet the requirements of the Specifications, the camshaft is subject to further use.
  7. Carrying replace camshaft bearings requires special tools and the availability of a certain experience, therefore lies outside the qualification of the average mechanic-fan. Remove the engine and deliver high-quality unit for the procedure in the workshop car service.

If there are signs of a strong friction camshaft cover on the distribution chain, first check the condition of his hard finger with a spring, and then cross-check the oil pressure relief hole in the back of the neck of the shaft.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Grease necks and cams and necks of the shaft assembly of motor grease.
  2. Insert the shaft of the engine. Try to reliably support the shaft during installation to avoid damage to the bearings when threading through them cams.
  3. The installation of the remaining components are produced in the reverse order of their removal.

The camshaft and hydraulic lifters must match the nature of wear and tear, so in case of replacement of the shaft, necessarily should be replaced and pushers.

  1. Before starting the engine, replace the engine oil and oil filter (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance).
  2. If during the repair set new camshaft and hydraulic tappets, the engine should be warmed up to normal operating temperature and allowed to operate for some time (15 - 20 minutes) to the speed of fast idling for break components. This is followed once again change the oil and oil filter.
