Repair procedures, the implementation of which is possible without removing the engine from the car

Many of the procedures of the general repair of the engine can be made without removing it from the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Before you get started, clean the engine compartment and the external surfaces of the engine by any of the methods of pressure. This greatly simplifies the implementation of most of the procedures and to reduce the risk dirt and foreign matter into the engine.

Depending on the nature of the work to facilitate access to the respective components may be necessary to remove the hood (head body). To avoid damaging the car cover with their wings (produced special cases, but no worse for this purpose, suitable, and just old blankets).

In the case of a vacuum leak, exhaust gas, oil or coolant, indicating the need for replacement of gaskets or seals, the repair can be performed typically at parked in the car engine. Access spacers intake manifold, exhaust manifold, timing cover, oil pan and the cylinder head, as well as to the packing of the crankshaft as possible without removing the engine from the vehicle.

External engine components, such as the intake manifold to the exhaust manifold, oil pan (and the oil pump), water pump, starter, alternator, distributor and parts supply system can be removed for repairs with the engine mounted on the car.

Since the cylinder head can be removed without removing the engine from the car, the service valve mechanism does not require extraction of the engine. The same applies to procedures for replacement of the camshaft, the distribution chain and its stars.

In extreme cases, in the absence of the necessary equipment, without removing the engine from the car can be produced also repair and replacement of pistons, piston rings, connecting rods and connecting rod bearings. However, this practice is highly undesirable because of the need for a large number of preparatory procedures and a thorough cleaning of all components.
