Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the pan (Section Removal and installation of the oil pan).
  2. Uncover the rear main bearing and remove the gland half and lift it with a small screwdriver.
  3. Carefully tuck one side of the second (upper) half of the indigenous oil seal in its groove with a small brass drift and a hammer. In this second of its end must lean over the surface of the block so that it became possible for him to grab a pair of pliers. Be extremely careful, trying not to damage the crankshaft pins.
  1. Fill the inside of the groove in the block one end of the upper half of the back radical epiploon ...

... so that the second end thereof is moved from the unit so that there was the opportunity to grab his pliers.

  1. Carefully smooth the surface of the main bearing cap and the rear of the block / crankcase, removing all traces of oil and old sealant.
  2. Coat the top half of the sponge of a new epiploon with pure impellent oil, and its outer surface - liquid soap.

Install the crankshaft rear oil seal.

  1. Insert the seal into the groove in the block jaws forward.
  2. Grease both ends of the bottom half of the gland RTV sealant and moisten the outer surface of liquid soap (see. Illustration above). Do not allow the sealant and soap on a sponge gland. Fill the oil seal into the cover of the radical bearing and lubricate it with a sponge motor oil.

Do not apply at this stage of the sealant on the mating surfaces of the block and main bearing caps. This is done after the measurement gap in the bearings of the crankshaft.

  1. Coat the edges chamfered rear main bearing cap with sealant to secure the threaded connections (Locktite 518 or equivalent). And replace the cover. Tighten fixing bolts with demanded effort.
  1. Apply a small amount of sealant to secure the threaded connections on the shaded area surface of the rear main bearing cap before placing it on the engine.
  1. The installation of the remaining components are produced in the reverse order of their removal.
  2. Fill the engine with the required amount of motor oil (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance), start the engine and check for oil leaks.
