Installing the crankshaft

Sequence of a tightening of bolts of covers of radical bearings (4-cylinder engines)

Sequence of a tightening of bolts of covers of radical bearings (6-cylinder)

Check of a lubricant backlash of radical bearings

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install new main bearing shells.
2. For measurement of a lubricant backlash it is possible to take advantage of an internal micrometer or other special device, but the most accurate and easy method - is to use a special plastic measuring instrument.
3. Clean the crankshaft, bearings and lubrication holes, then gently set the crankshaft bearings.
4. Put the plastic on the length of each of the main bearing along the shaft axis.
5. Install the main bearing caps, being careful not to move the plastic. Tighten the mounting bolts of covers to the required torque in the sequence. Do not rotate the crankshaft.
6. Remove the screws and carefully remove the cover.
7. Compare width of the crushed film to a special scale for definition of size of a lubricant backlash.
8. If the clearance does not meet the technical requirements, establish loose leaves of a different size. If necessary, the bearings can grind.
9. Carefully remove traces of the film from the shaft and bearings.

Final installation of the crankshaft

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Carefully remove the crankshaft.
2. Place the top persistent half ring cuts out.
3. Turn the semi-circle around the crankshaft, setting it thus in place.
4. Clean the surface of the liner and lubricate them with grease or engine oil.
5. Make sure that the crankshaft bearings are clean and set the crankshaft in place.
6. Grease and install the lower liners.
7. The four-cylinder engines set the crankshaft bearing caps. Arrows covers should be directed towards the front of the engine. Insert and tighten bolts of covers of radical bearings to the required torque in the sequence.
8. The six-cylinder engines, apply sealant to the mating surface of the unit covers. Install the unit. Insert and tighten the bolts to the required block covers a torque in the sequence.
9. Turn the crankshaft several times by hand and check the ease of movement.
10. Check the axial play of the crankshaft and install the rear oil seal.
