Valve Cover



Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation valve and air hoses from the valve cover.
1.6-liter models
3. Disconnect spark plug wire from the clips.
4. Remove the two upper timing belt cover bolts (SOHC) and loosen the lower timing belt cover bolts.
5. Remove the valve cover bolts (SOHC).
6. Remove the valve from the cylinder head.
7. Inspect the cover gasket, replace if necessary.
1.8-liter models
8. Mark the spark plug wires and disconnect them from the candles.
9. Remove the ignition distributor together with wires.
10. Remove the screws of the top cover timing belt and remove the cover.
11. Remove the valve cover bolts and remove the cover.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1.6-liter models
1. Apply a layer of sealant into the groove of the lid, set in the groove of the valve cover gasket (SOHC).
2. Install the valve cover, insert the bolts and tighten them.
1.8-liter models
3. Clean off traces of the old gasket, apply a layer of sealant into the groove of the valve covers (SOHC), install the gasket in the groove.
4. Apply silicone sealant to the shaded areas of the cylinder head (1.8 L DOHC).
5. Replace the cover, insert the screws and tighten the screws by hand.
6. Tighten bolts in several steps in the sequence.
