Check the brake system

Dust generated by wear pads and adhering to brake components may contain hazardous asbestos. Do not Blow the dust by means of compressed air and do not inhale it! Do not use petroleum-based solvents to remove dust. The dust should be washed off special brake cleaner or methylated spirit to drain capacitance. After wiping the brake system components with a damp cloth rag and the contents of the discharge capacity should be kept in a closed container and signed. In the future, if possible, try to use nesoderzhaschimi asbestos components.

In addition to inspections at specified intervals condition brake should be checked each time the wheels are removed, or when signs of faults in the system. To ensure the safety of driving the following procedures test the brake system are the most important of all the procedures made by you on car servicing.

Signs of problems in the braking system

Disc brakes can be equipped with built-in wear indicators friction linings, to help signal the need for immediate implementation of a replacement pad in order to avoid failure of the brake discs.

Any of the following signs may indicate a potential defect in the braking system:

  1. When squeezing the brake pedal car "leads" in one direction;
  2. Brakes braking issue scraping or squealing noises;
  3. An excessively large stroke of the brake pedal;
  4. Squeezing the brake pedal accompanied by pulsations unrelated with operation of ABS;
  5. Occur leakage of brake fluid (usually on the inner side of the tire or the wheel).

In the event of any of the above symptoms should immediately produce although inspection of the components of the braking system.

Brake lines and hoses

The hydraulic path of brake systems are mainly used steel tube, - with the exception of a flexible reinforced hoses that serve to connect the tubes to the wheel cylinders. Status flexible brake hoses should be inspected on a regular basis.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground and stop the engine. Remove caps wheels. Loosen but do not remove the bolts on all four wheels.
  2. Poddomkratte car and establish it on props.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. Check all hydraulic lines and brake hoses tract for cracks, abrasions, blisters, deformation and signs of leakage. Make sure there are no signs of friction elements of the brake lines on the suspension and steering. Inspect all hydraulic brake couplings tract for signs of leaks, check the choke mounting bolts and nuts.
  1. Bending the flexible brake hoses in different directions, make sure there are no signs of mechanical damage (see. Conjugated. Illustration). Make sure that the installed hoses are not twisted, - the anchor can be used applied to the surface of the hose longitudinal colored stripes.
  1. Rotate the steering wheel, make sure that the flexible brake hoses front brakes are not in contact with the elements of the steering gear.
  2. In the event of signs of development of leaks causes of past should be immediately eliminated.

Check the thickness of the brake pads

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Evaluation of the remaining thickness of the friction linings outer brake pad can be done visually through the opening in the rim using a flashlight. For further inspection of the interior pads need a mirror. A more accurate check of a condition of brake pads made after their removal, - measuring the thickness of the friction linings will need calipers.

Disc brakes front wheels

Experience shows that the brake pad wear of the wheels on the passenger side is most often higher than the driver's side, which is why inspection should always start from the right side of the vehicle. According to statistics, 1,000 kilometers under adverse conditions account for about 1 mm wear pads. Under normal conditions, the wear lining is considerably less. Realistically, if the residual thickness of the pad 10.0 mm (including the metal substrate), it can be operated even at least 3000 km.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Mark a paint position of the front wheel against the hub. This will set the wheel balanced in its operating position. Loosen the wheel bolts, then Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props. Remove the right front wheel.
  2. Measure the total thickness of the caliper friction pad with a metal substrate both brake pads.
  3. Front Pad wear limit, when the replacement is to be made immediately, is 7 mm. Procedure replacing the pads provided in Chapter Brakes and auxiliary systems.
  4. Tracing the alignment caused during the dismantling of labels, replace the wheel. No greasing, screw the wheel bolts.
  5. Lower the car on wheels and moving in a diagonal order, tighten the bolts with demanded effort.

Disc brakes rear wheels

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If installed, remove the decorative cap and through the opening in the rim visually assess the residual thickness of the lining of the outer brake pad, - if necessary, use the flashlight.
  2. For the inspection of the interior pads, use a mirror.
  3. As for the front brake minimum permissible thickness of the rear pad is 7 mm (pad + substrate).

Parking brake

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. The simplest, and perhaps the most obvious way to check the health of the functioning of the parking brake is holding the vehicle on a steep slope in the neutral position of transmission, - the driver has to be in place in the car. If the parking brake is not able to keep the car should make its adjustment (see chap. Brakes and auxiliary systems).
