Replacing the motor oil and oil filter

general information

Prolonged skin contact with the spent motor oil is dangerous. Use sunscreen and wear gloves during the procedure. Oil-soaked clothes are replaced immediately.

Regular and frequent replacement of motor oil is the main preventive maintenance procedures available amateur mechanics. Over time, the oil is subject to dilution and contamination, leading to premature wear.

Engine oil, if necessary, can be pumped by a special probe (usually can be taken for temporary use at petrol stations) through the guide tube of the probe.

No way to drain into drains!

It is advisable to replace the oil after the engine mounted on the labels of the brand poured oil and date of the procedure.

Using various types of oils adversely affect the operation of the engine. In no event shall also be mixing oils of different brands. In some cases (particularly in the intermediate season), mixtures of motor oils of different viscosity, under condition of coincidence of their type and brand.

Required tools

  • Inspection pit / Pier / hydrolift (if the oil is not pumped through the top);
  • Sensing head to loosen the drain plug;
  • Special nozzle for loosening the filter cover (103 589 02 09 00);
  • Drain capacity (if the oil is not sucked through the guide tube of the probe) of not less than 6 liters.

The necessary parts and supplies:

  • Aluminum or copper sealing washer for the drain plug (if the oil is not pumped through the top) - is sometimes supplied with a replaceable filter;
  • Replacement cartridge filter element;
  • The required amount of motor oil, has received approval from Mercedes-Benz.

Draining the motor oil

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. Poddomkratte car and set it horizontally on props.
  3. Get a sump tank for collecting the waste oil.
  1. Remove from the oil pan drain plug (see. Conjugated. Illustration a) and drain the oil - if you do not put the drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan of the engine, use a special device to pump oil (see. Conjugated. Illustration b).

If the used oil are present in a large number of metal shavings and wear debris, which indicates the presence of burrs, for example, in bearings of the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. To eliminate damage after repairs should be thoroughly cleaned oil channels and hoses. Also required, if there is, replace the oil cooler.

  1. Wait until the oil ceases to flow through the drain hole, then screw the plug in place, replacing it with a pre-sealing washer, - check that the plug has been tightened with demanded effort - too tight tightening drain plug is associated with the risk of damage to the integrity of its landing.
  2. Lower the car on wheels.

Changing the oil filter

Petrol models

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Removing the operating element of the oil filter (petrol models).

  1. ). The cassette is placed on top of the oil filter on the engine in the left front corner of the latter (see. Illustration Engine compartment petrol models (for example, AMG G55)).
  2. With the help of a special nozzle (103 589 02 09 00) release the screw cap (2) of the casing (5) of the oil filter and remove the assembly from the working element (4).
  3. Short blows inflicted on the central rod, beat out a work item from the lid into the prepared drain capacity.
  4. Replace the O-ring (3) of the cover (2).
  5. Fill in the casing (5) assembly removable operating element (4), and then set him on the cover and tighten it with the special nozzle (see. Section 3).

Diesel models

PERFORMANCE ORDER

    and - Removing the operating element of the oil filter (G270 CDI models with the motor M612)
    b - Removing the operating element of the oil filter (G400 CDI models with the motor M628)

    2 - Seal

  1. The procedure is similar to the procedure described above for gasoline engines. On models equipped with engine series 612, to provide access to the filter, you must first dismantle the trim panel of the cylinder head / air cleaner assembly.

Refilling of fresh motor oil

When you first start turbodiesel after an oil change is necessary to ensure that the engine is first to idle until the indicator lamp goes out oil. The increase in engine speed at a burning control lamp runs the risk of failure of the turbocharger!

Filling oil is produced through a special, equipped with the filler cap in the cylinder head cover (see. Illustration Engine compartment petrol models (for example, AMG G55), Engine compartment G270 CDI diesel models and Engine compartment CDI diesel models G400).
  2. When replacing the oil, use fresh oil of the same type, and if possible, the same brand as drained from the engine. To minimize splashing use funnel. At every oil change the engine is attached to the plate showing the type and brand of oil used, and the date the replacement.
  3. In the first step fill the engine by about 0.5 liters of oil is less than that indicated in the Specifications, and then warm up the engine and, after a few minutes, check the level, - if necessary, make appropriate adjustment, bringing the level to the mark MAX on the blade of the probe.

Surplus oil should be pumped from the engine in order to avoid the risk of damaging sealing elements of the engine and damage the catalytic converter.

  1. After the test drive, check the tightness of fit drain plug and oil filter cap.
  2. After about 2 minutes after the engine again, check the oil level, if necessary, make appropriate adjustment.
