General Inspection of the ignition system
The overall test procedure is as follows: - Check the connections of electric wires and connectors of the transformer high voltage output stage of ignition, the ECU and the ignition distributor (2.0-liter). These compounds can be oxidized or more loose due to vibration; - Check the integrity of all electrical wires; - Check the tightness and condition of the HV wire of the insulating coating. Mashed wire insulation HV leads to electrical losses and penetration spark discharge; - Check the condition of the ignition distributor 2.0-liter engine. It should be free of cracks and traces of scorching, or may form sparks inside the distributor cap.
Check receipt of the voltage transformer in high voltage Be carried out using a voltmeter as follows: - Check the fuse number 15; 2.0 liter engine:

Elements of the ignition system on a 2.0-liter engine (with fuel injection Simos): 1 - HV wire to the spark plug; 2 - plug suppressing interference; 3 - a protective cover; 4 - a cover of the distributor of ignition; 5 - Rotor, distributor; 6 - three-prong plug connector; 7 - dust cover; 8 - the ignition distributor with Hall sensor; 9 - O-shaped sealing ring; 10 - presser rail; 11 - a bolt, 25 Nm; 12 - a spark plug 30 Nm; 13 - a tip of the HV wire on the spark plug; 14 - bolt 20 Nm; 15 - knock sensor (G61); 16 - high-voltage transformer (152 N); 17 - the output stage of the high voltage transformer (N157); 18 - terminal "15"; 19 - terminal "1" |
- Disconnect the three-pin plug connector 6 (see. Fig. 210) from the high-voltage transformer;

|
- Connect to both external contacts plug pad - contact "1" (positive) terminal and "3" ("mass") - voltmeter (Fig. 213); - Switch on the ignition. The voltmeter should show pressure, close to the voltage of the battery. If not, check all the connections of electric wires, up to ignition; the engine VR6:

|
- Disconnect the five-pin plug connector 6 (see. Fig. 211) from the high-voltage transformer;

|
- Connect a voltmeter to terminals "1" and "5" (Fig. 214); - Switch on the ignition. The voltmeter should show pressure close to the voltage of the battery. If not, check all the connections of electric wires, up to ignition. Furthermore, it can be broken up connection between the terminal "5" and "weight".
Checking secondary voltage (high-side) ignition system While these checks may give a positive result, but it does not mean that the engine produces a spark. To test would simply arrester with two pairs of metal rods (electrodes) fixed to the plate of electrically insulating material (plastic, PCB). The lower part of the rods with insulators in shape and size should match the size of the insulator and spark plug. At the top of the rods wrapped screws with pointed ends. The gap between the end of the screw can be adjusted by turning the screws. When checking the high-voltage part must be careful. For this purpose, it is necessary to close the gap on top of the lid of an insulating material with viewing windows. Surge fix on the car body. Check high-voltage part of the ignition system performed as follows. The 2.0-liter engine: - Disconnect the HV wire from the spark plugs; - Connect the wires to the electrodes tips arrester; - Wires from candles number 1 and number 4 is connected to a pair of electrodes of the arrester, and from candles ?2 and number 3 - the other pair of electrodes; - Set the electrode gap of 7-10 mm and turn the engine a starter; - Should be alternately "overshoot" sparks between electrode pairs 2 and 5; - If the spark arrester in the normal, check the spark plugs; - If there is no spark on one pair of electrodes, it is necessary to check the electrical circuit; HV wires, ignition coil and the connection of the ignition coil with output stage transformer high voltage; - If the distributor has been removed, there are sparks, candles are good, and the engine does not start, check the installation of the distributor of ignition. VR6 engine Checking is carried out in the same manner as described for the 2.0-liter engine, but the tips of the wires, disconnect the HV from candles number 1 and number 6 and put them together, as it was described. This allows you to test both the ignition coil. At your discretion, also remove the check and wire the HV spark from the number 3 and number 4 and number 2 and number 5. To test can not use a simple spark gap with two pairs of metal rods (electrodes) fixed to the plate of electrically insulating material and three pairs, which allow to check at once, all the wires HV engine VR6. If during the inspection described everything works fine, you should look for the problem further. Otherwise, drive away the car to the service station.
