Wheels and tires

Preventing damage to wheels and tires
Move curbs and other such obstacles slowly and, if possible at right angles.
Protect the tires from contact with these oils, lubricants and fuels.
Regularly check tires for damage (punctures, cuts, cracks). Remove any foreign objects from the tread.

Storage of tires
Label removed tires for what would be when you reinstall the vehicle to retain the previous direction of rotation of the tire.
Store the removed wheels and tires in a cool, dry and dark place.
Place the tire vertically if they are not mounted on the disk.

New tires
New tires should be "firmed".
Depending on the structure and profile of the tread pattern depth of new tires may differ from the tires of various designs and different manufacturers.

Hidden damage
Damage to tires and wheels are often not visible. Unusual vibration or maintenance of a vehicle to the side may indicate a defective tire. In this case, you should definitely check the condition of tires in the service enterprise a Volkswagen.

Tyres with directional tread pattern
Tyres with directional tread pattern has arrows on the sidewall. Be sure to specify the direction for the installation of the wheels on the car. At the same time we realized all the advantages of tires with respect to traction, wear, noise and hydroplaning.

Checking tire pressure
Check the information on the label, which should be the tire pressure.

NOTE
Nominal tire pressure is shown in the label at the end of the driver's door.

Install a pressure gauge directly on the dust cap, not otvertyvaya it.
Check pressure is always cold tires. Do not let the air at an elevated pressure in a hot tire.
Adapt tire pressure to the load of the vehicle.

Tyre pressure
Availability of the nominal tire pressure is particularly important in high-speed motion. Tire pressure should be checked at least once a month and before every long trip.

Go tire

NOTE
Go tire pressure depends on the size of them, driving style and quality of the installation on the rims.

Indicators of deterioration of tires

Signs of wear, tread
Fig. 1.132. Signs of wear, tread

The tread pattern of the tire wear indicators are 1.6 mm in height, located across the tread (Fig. 1.132). Such pointers integer from 6 to 8 are located at an equal distance from each other on the treadmill tire. The markings on the sidewall of the tire (for example, refer to ?TWI? or icon) indicate the location of the wear indicators. The residual height of drawing of 1.6 mm - measured in the groove around the profile wear indicator - is the minimum for admission to the operation of the vehicle. Worn tires should be replaced.
Improper tire pressure leads to increased tire wear and may even cause rupture of the tire. Therefore, you should at least once a month to check your tire pressure.
High-speed cornering, sharp acceleration and braking also increase tire wear.

Rearrange tires

Driving tire rotation
Fig. 1.133. Driving tire rotation

With clearly increased wear of tires of the front wheels is recommended to swap the front wheels to the rear according to the diagram in Figure 1.133. Thanks to it all tires will have the same mileage.

Wheel balancing
The wheels of a new vehicle are balanced. In operation, for various reasons, it may be an imbalance of wheels, which manifests itself in violation of the ride and driveability of the car.
When imbalance increases wear on the steering, suspension and tires - wheels should be re-balanced. In addition, wheel balancing is required when replacing tires.

Winter tires
In winter conditions, the behavior of the vehicle is substantially improved when using winter tires. This also applies to all-wheel drive vehicles. Summer tires because of the nature of their construction (width, tread pattern, rubber compound) on snow and ice slide.
Use snow tires on all four wheels.
Allowed sizes of winter tires are specified in the vehicle. Use only radial tires. All of the documentation tire sizes also apply to winter tires.
Winter tires largely lose their properties when the tread depth is reduced to 4 mm.
For winter tires, depending on the rate index, the following speed limits:
- T - max. 190 km / h;
- H - max. 210 km / h.
When using winter tires with speed index V the speed limit, and the tire pressures are determined by engine power. Find out in the service enterprise a Volkswagen, the maximum allowable speed and the required pressure in the tires.

Anti-skid chains
Chains can be worn only on the front wheel and tire on a specific dimension.
Only use fine mesh chains extending no more than 15 mm (including locking units).
Before putting on the chains, remove the full-size caps and decorative rings disks. The wheel bolts must be protected by caps.
