Check of functioning and thermostat replacement

Do not remove the radiator cap, do not drain the coolant system and not change the thermostat up until the engine has thoroughly cooled.

Checking operation

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before coming to the conclusion that the problems in the cooling system associated with the failure of the thermostat, check the coolant level, the drive belt tension (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance) and the condition of the meter (or test lamp) temperature.
  2. If it is suspected (based on the meter readings of temperature or flow rate beginning in the cabin heater hot air), engine warm-up that lasts too long, it can be assumed that the thermostat was jammed in the open position. Replace the thermostat a new or known-good.
  3. If the engine starts to overheat, feel by hand the upper radiator hose. When the hose is not heated, and the engine is hot, the thermostat is probably stuck in the closed position and closes the circulation of the coolant through the radiator. Replace the thermostat.

Do not use the vehicle removed from the thermostat. On-board computer at the same time can switch to open loop when stops tracking exhaust emissions and fuel consumption optimization is broken.

  1. If the upper radiator hose is heated, this means that the thermostat is open and there is the normal circulation of coolant through the radiator. In this case, please check to Section Diagnostics of malfunctions at the beginning of this manual.

Replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Drain the cooling system (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance). If the cooler was filled into it just recently and is in good condition, save it for reuse.
  3. To detect the position of the thermostat, make sure the path lining the upper radiator hose.
  1. Loosen the clamp (s) and disconnect hose (s) from the union (s). If the hose is "stuck with" held him near the end of self-locking pliers, and try it on rotating the fitting, then, if successful, remove the hose from the union. If the hose is badly damaged as a result of the aging of the material, cut it from the union and replace with a new assembly.
  1. If the outer surface of the long nozzle, which fits the hose is damaged as a result of corrosion effects, it may be subject to further degradation in the process of removing the hose. In this case, the thermostat cover should be replaced.
  2. Give bolts and uncover the thermostat housing. If the cover is "baked onto" Tap the release of her for a hammer with soft brisk. Be prepared for a certain amount of coolant Strait fracture pads.
  1. After disconnecting the hose (s) give bolts (arrows) and remove the case from the engine - is shown located behind the support of one of the ancillary thermostat housing engine V8.
Location 6-cylinder engine.
  1. Remember how (how end up) thermostat was installed, then remove it.
  2. Plug the hole with a cloth in the engine, and then scrape off all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the mating surfaces of the thermostat housing and head cover. Remove the cloth from the hole and wipe the mating surfaces with acetone.
  3. Install a new thermostat into the housing. Ensure the correct orientation when installing thermostat - equipped with a spring end should be directed to the engine.
  4. Apply a thin coat of RTV sealant on both sides of the new gasket and the gasket on the body.
  5. Replace the cover and screws. Tighten bolts with demanded effort.
  6. Connect the hose (s) to the nozzle (s) and secure it (them) clamp (s).
  7. Fill the cooling system (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance).
  8. Start the engine, let it warm up to normal operating temperature, then make sure there are no leaks in the coolant and check that the operation of the thermostat (see. P. 2 - 4).
