Removal and installation of the water pump

Before you begin the procedure, wait until the cooling of the engine.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Drain the cooling system (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance). If the cooler is still fresh and in good condition, save it for later use.
  3. Remove the cooling fan with a casing (Section Check of serviceability and replacement of the cooling fan and clutch his clutch).
  4. Remove belts (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance), and the water pump pulley.
  5. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect hose from the water pump. If the hoses are "baked onto" grab alternate for each of them closer to the end and try to roll the it to the fitting, if released, remove the hose from the union. Do not damage the fittings. If the hoses are damaged or aging of the material, cut them with fittings and assembly replaced.
  6. On 6-cylinder engines remove the tension roller and the pump system hydrostrengthening helm, do not disconnect the hoses from the latter and set it aside, the bottom down to avoid leaking hydraulic fluid.

At 6-cylinder engine of 4.0 liters of hydrostrengthening steering pump can be removed as a whole arm - an arm on the water pump.

  1. Give bolts and remove the water pump from the engine. Note the location of bolts of different lengths and types - the assembly must be installed in its place. On models equipped with V8 engines Reach pliers and loosen the clamp on the bypass hose water pump.

Details of the water pump assembly - 6-cylinder engine (note the location of the short and long fasteners and do not forget to transfer to the new pump hose nozzle heating).

Location bolts of the water pump - engine V8.
  1. Reaching a pair of pliers, remove the overflow pipe behind the water pump - engine V8.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Clean the bolt threads and bolt holes in the engine block, remove them from corrosion and old sealant.
  2. Compare the new with the old pump, making sure the identity of their designs. On models with 6-cylinder engines remove from the old nave fitting heating hose and drag it to a new, greased threaded part sealant. If the engine will be mounted on the old pump, check the back side of the rotor blades for signs of corrosion. If any of the blades is lost or severely corroded, replace the pump.

At 6-cylinder engine of 4.0 liters from 1993 to 1995, Vol. Mounted reversible type water pump (with reverse rotation). The rotor of the pump is usually marked with the letter ?R?. Check the pump for the new labeling in order to avoid mounting on the pump motor is not the type that will inevitably lead to the engine overheating.

Replacement water pump, 6-cylinder engine to be reversible type - make sure there is a label in the letters ?R? on the rotor of the pump.

  1. Scrape all traces of the old gasket material from the mating surface of the pump motor.
  2. Clean the mating surfaces of the engine and a new water pump with a clean cloth soaked in acetone.
  3. Coat the surface of the engine facing the new gasket with a thin layer of sealant RTV.
  4. Lubricate the gasket mating surface of the new pump with a thin layer of sealant RTV, then carefully attach the gasket to the pump. Insert the bolts through the pair of mounting holes of the pump and carefully put them on the pad.
  1. When replacing the water pump track correctness of installation of various length screws.
  1. Carefully attach the pump to the engine seal and screw bolts into the holes of the tightening by hand.
  2. Install the remaining bolts (if they are also used to attach the brackets any accessories, be sure to install the brackets at this stage). Gradually (1/4 turn in one go), tighten the bolts with demanded effort.
  3. Establish into place all removed for access to the pump parts and assemblies. Track correctness of a lining belt drive belt when dressing it on the pulleys (Chapter Settings and maintenance) to prevent overheating of the engine as a result of rotation of the pump in the opposite direction.
  4. Fill cooling system and check the belt tension (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance). Start the engine and check for leaks.
