Checking the status of the crankshaft

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Rinse the crankshaft in a solvent and dry it with compressed air (if you have access to its source). Clean a special stiff brush (cleaning brush) all oil holes. And wash them with a jet of solvent.
  2. Check the neck main and connecting rod bearings for signs of uneven wear, cracks and cavities.
  3. Spend forcefully several times for each of the necks of the edge of a copper coin. If the surface of the copper strips are necks, it is rough and the shaft must be delivered into a groove.
  4. Remove burrs from the edges of the oil holes of the crankshaft using a grindstone, needle files or scanning.
  5. Check out the rest of the surface of the shaft for cracks and other damage. To detect hidden cracks shaft must be subjected to a special inspection, which is the prerogative of the service specialist.
  6. With the help of a micrometer to measure the diameters of the main and connecting rod necks of the shaft and compare the results with the requirements of the Specifications. Measure the diameter of the neck at several points around the perimeter of its envelope surface will reveal the roundness of the neck. Measurement of diameter from all over the neck close to the cheeks of cranks to determine taper neck.
  1. Measure the diameter of each of the crankshaft journals at several points to determine the degrees of roundness and taper neck.
  1. If the crankshaft journals are damaged or are beyond the permissible for Specifications outside taper and roundness of the shaft should be given to the bore in the studio Car. After the bore of the engine must be installed bearing shells corresponding repair sizes.
  2. Check the neck end (pins) of the shaft, which is put on the seals for wear or damage. If the journals are developed glands grooves or surfaces are bullies, burrs and scratches, it will (if not taken appropriate steps to eliminate the defects) to the output of the new seals fail in the near future after the start of operation of the restored engine. It should give the shaft to the workshop for repair by press-stud on his thin sleeves. If the repair is not possible, the shaft should be replaced.
  3. Check the condition of loose leaves of radical bearings and connecting rod (Section Checking the main and connecting rod bearings).
