Cleaning the engine block

Typically, clutch release plugs for many years do not suffer major overhaul of the engine are firmly zakorrodirovavshimi in their channels. Resting on the edge of a small plug a drift, drive into the edge of the channel by gently striking the punch with a hammer. Score one of the edges of the canal so that there was an opportunity to seize the channel came out of the opposite self-locking pliers.

Removing Releaser jams (which serve to compensate for the increased volume of coolant in case of freezing) can be very difficult if they are deeply sucked into the cooling channels.

Clutch release cork extracted from the cooling channels of the engine by carefully zastukivaniya one of their edges into the channel - with the second, the opposite will come out and you can grab it with forceps.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Scratch out from interfaced surfaces of the block all traces of the old gasket material. Be careful - careful not to damage or leave burrs on the sealing surfaces.
  2. Remove the crankshaft bearing caps and remove the shells from both the covers and out of bed in the unit. Attach the pad to each label with the information about what the bearing and where it belongs has been set - in the block or cover. Fold the ear in a safe place.
  3. Remove from the block all the screw plugs of oil galleries. Normally caps are tightened very tight and often they have to be drilled with a subsequent reduction in the thread tap holes. When assembling the engine install new plugs.
  4. Heavily contaminated unit should be sent to the shop for car-care center or steam clean zharoobrabotki, although some patience may be enough to clear the block quality and at home.
  5. After returning the unit once clean all the oil galleries. In any auto parts store you can buy specially designed for this purpose brush (brushes). Rinse the channels a stream of warm water (rinsing can be considered complete when the block comes out clean water), and then carefully dry the block and lightly grease the surface treated with oil to prevent corrosion. If you have access to a source of compressed air use it to dry the block and purge all channels, openings and galleries.

When working with pressurized air, wear protective glasses!

  1. If the block is not very dirty and not sanded-in, it is enough to wash it with hot soapy water using a stiff brush. Do not invest time and effort to carry out this work. Regardless of the chosen method of cleaning, be sure that all oil apertures and galleries have been cleaned carefully, the block itself completely dry, and its treated surfaces lubricated with light oil to prevent corrosion.
  2. All of the screw holes in the unit must be completed tapping the appropriate dimensions in order to remove them from corrosion, old sealant and restoration of torn and broken threads. If possible, blow out the holes with compressed air to remove debris and left them tap chips (do not forget to wear safety goggles). Then should clean and restore the threads of bolts and studs of the cylinder head and the crankshaft bearing caps (Lerke use of appropriate dimensions).
  3. Set into place the crankshaft bearing caps and tighten them by hand bolts.
  4. Lubricate the sealing surface of the new Releaser jams uncured compound (such as Permatex ? 2) and insert the plug into the holes in the block. To prevent leaks, take care that the plug was inserted perpendicularly and planted properly. For this purpose, a special tool is available, but you can use for planting plugs and replaceable face head suitable diameter (which must clearly include cork) complete with extension 1/2 inch (13 mm) and a hammer.
  1. Large removable head with an extension cord can be used to set the clutch release plugs in the unit - proceed slowly and stop landing plug immediately after its installation will achieve a level in the channel flush with the wall surface of the block.
  1. Grease the threads of oil gallery plugs new uncured compound (such as Permatex ? 2 or Teflon pipe sealant) and screw plug into the holes in the block. Make sure that the plugs were pulled tight.
  2. If you do not plan to immediately build the engine, wrap the unit in a large plastic bag to prevent contamination during storage.
