Starting the engine from the auxiliary power supply

Run by towing or pushing runs the risk of failure of the catalytic converter, and on models equipped with the AT, it is not possible at all!

Disconnecting the battery negative wire should always be done in the first place, and the connection - the last!

Use of the auxiliary power supply can help you make the engine run in an extreme situation, but then must find and eliminate the cause of a low battery. ? The most common causes include: ?

  • Conducting repeated unsuccessful attempts to start the engine or leaving lighting on for a long time with the engine;
  • Infringement of serviceability of functioning of the system charge (weakened or broken alternator drive belt, damaged connective wiring or defective generator itself);
  • The fault itself Battery (electrolyte level dropped or left battery life).

When the engine is started by an external power supply should be given to comply with some special precautions:

  • Do not attempt to start the engine from the frozen battery - pre-warm it;
  • On petrol models start the engine from the auxiliary power supply must be carried out only at cold power unit and catalytic converter;
  • Do not start using the exercise device for fast charging the battery;
  • Before you connect the auxiliary battery, make sure the ignition is switched off;
  • Make sure that all consumers of electricity (lighting and heaters, wipers, etc.) have also been turned off;
  • Only use cables of sufficient cross-section with insulated terminal clamps;
  • Wear protective gloves and glasses;
  • Make sure that the auxiliary battery is of the output voltage setting on your car;
  • If the auxiliary power supply is used the battery installed in another vehicle, make sure that vehicles DO not touch each other;
  • The motor vehicle battery which is launched, should work at idle;
  • Make sure the transmission is included in neutral (Manual), or translated into position "P" (AT);
  • With a discharged battery, remove the vent caps and cover the holes with rags.

Wiring the auxiliary power supply to run the failed car

P oryadok wiring:
1 - The positive terminal of the failed battery
2 - The positive terminal of the auxiliary battery

3 - The negative terminal of the auxiliary battery
4 - Engine weight

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. On cars KIA Sportage battery is placed in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. The positive terminal of the battery is equipped with a protective cover, which must first dismantle, - connect the end of the red wire from a special kit to the positive terminal of the emergency battery (1), the second end thereof is connected to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery (2); one end of the black wire to the negative terminal of the booster battery (3), the second - a properly grounded point (4) on the engine.
  2. Make sure that the connecting wires are not in contact with moving components in the engine compartments of both cars (equipped with a fan, belts, etc.).
  3. Follow the standard procedure for starting the engine. Leave the engine running at idle. In order to prevent power surges when disconnecting electrical heater switch on the rear window and heater fan, then disconnect the wires, acting in the reverse order of their connection. When finished, turn off unnecessary electrical consumers.
