Installation of the piston rings

Before installation of new piston rings it is necessary to check the gap in their joints.

The implication is that the gap between the ring and landing pad grooves have been tested and complies with.

Arrange the pistons in gathering with rods and new piston rings in such a manner to correspond to a given set of rings of the cylinder, which will be measured by the gap in the joint.

Insert into the first cylinder and push the top ring of the piston head inside, so that the ring inside cylinder became perpendicular to its axis. The ring should be in the lower part of the cylinder in a position corresponding to the bottom dead point.

The gap at the junction of the piston ring is measured by the probe. Compare the result with the set value.

If the gap is more or less set, then repeat the test to verify the possibility of installing the rings.

If the gap is too small, then it must increase, since otherwise occur during engine operation ends closure rings, which can cause serious damage. The gap at the junction of the piston ring can be increased cautiously to file ends with a thin needle files. Hold needle file in a vice with soft sponges, and gently move a ring on it, removing excess material.

The clearance may exceed the established, but must be no more than 1 mm.

Should repeat the measurement to verify the suitability of the ring.

Repeat the measurements for each ring, mounted in said first cylinder and for each of the rings installed in the other cylinders.

After the measurement gaps in the joint rings and the adjustment ring can be mounted on the pistons.

The first set oil ring (the lowest on the piston).

This ring is composed of three parts.

Set in the groove splitter / extender.
Install the bottom rail oil ring. When installing the guide device to use for dressing rings is impossible, as their breakage is possible. One end of the rail into the groove of the piston, and the horizontal separator between the area of the groove and firmly hold it, get a finger into the groove of the second end of the ring. Likewise, set the second guide.

After installing all parts oil ring, make sure the top and bottom rails to turn freely in the groove. Place joints scraper ring according to the figure.

Next ustanalivaetsya middle ring (number 2). This ring is embossed mark "R", which must be turned toward the piston crown.

A warning

Always act in accordance with the instructions on the package of piston rings from different manufacturers may have different designations. Do not confuse the upper and lower compression rings, as they have different cross-sectional profiles.

Fit dressing piston rings, make sure that labels are directed towards the bottom of the piston and move the corresponding ring in the middle groove of the piston. Do not dilute the joints of the ring at a greater distance than is required for its passage over the piston. Instead, you can use the device with metal strips.

Likewise, set the upper compression ring. Make sure the label facing upwards. Do not confuse the top kompressitonnoe ring (1) from the bottom. a compression ring (2). Place joints rings in accordance with the pattern.
