1. Install new main bearing shells. |
2. For measurement of a lubricant backlash it is possible to take advantage of an internal micrometer or other special device, but the most accurate and easy method - is to use a special plastic measuring instrument. |
3. Clean the crankshaft, bearings and lubrication holes, then gently set the crankshaft bearings. |
| 4. Put the plastic on the length of each of the main bearing along the shaft axis. |
| 5. Install the main bearing caps, being careful not to move the plastic. Tighten the mounting bolts of covers to the required torque in the sequence. Do not rotate the crankshaft. |
6. Remove the screws and carefully remove the cover. |
| 7. Compare width of the crushed film to a special scale for definition of size of a lubricant backlash. |
8. If the clearance does not meet the technical requirements, establish loose leaves of a different size. If necessary, the bearings can grind. |
9. Carefully remove traces of the film from the shaft and bearings. |
