Specification of engine oil

In modern engines may only use HD-oils. They are doped oils, lubricating properties are significantly improved by the addition of various chemical biocatalysts. These additives improve corrosion resistance, reduce oxidation, particularly the formation of sludge in the crankcase engine oils improve viscosity and solvent properties. Cleansing and solubilizing additives not only reduce the formation of engine deposits, but these deposits are dissolved, other mechanical crush all the impurities in the engine oil and maintain them in a suspended state so that they are removed when replacing the oil.

HD-quality motor oils assessed according to the system API (API - American Petroleum Institute). European manufacturers are also guided by the system.

Oils are designated by two letters. The first letter in the designation of - field of application: S - the service is suitable for gasoline engines; C - commercial, suitable for diesel engines. The second letter stands for quality in alphabetical order. The highest quality according to API-specification: SG - for gasoline engines and CF - for diesel.

A warning

Motor oils, which are marked by the manufacturer as oils for diesel engines, are unsuitable for gasoline. There are oils that are suitable for gasoline and diesel engines. In this case, the container for the oil are indicated both specifications (e.g., SG / CE).
