Check the charging system

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. If you find a fault in the charging system - failure of the generator can not be the only reason. Perform the following checks:

a) Inspect the drive belt and make sure that it is stretched and damaged. If damaged, replace it (refer to Chapter Routine maintenance).
b) Check that the alternator mounting bolts are tightened securely.
c) Check the wiring of the generator and all the connectors. All contacts must be reliable and not oxidized.
d) Check the appropriate fuses located in the engine compartment (see Chapter Onboard electric equipment). Upon detection of the burned eliminate the cause of fuse and replace it (with the corresponding fuse blown, you can not start the engine or turn on any of the instruments).
e) Start the engine and make sure that the generator is not heard from the other sounds (whistling or squealing can indicate a fault or worn bearing brushes).
f) Make sure that the battery is fully charged. If one of the cans is damaged, the battery may consume excessive current.
g) Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the battery (first negative). Inspect battery terminals and tips of the wires. If you find corrosion, thoroughly clean them (refer to the material of the Head Routine maintenance). Attach the wires to the terminals terminals and tighten securely.
2. Turn on the voltmeter between positive and negative poles of the battery.
3. Start the engine. Voltage when the engine starts may fall to 8 (when the outside temperature of + 20 ? C).
4. Increase engine speed to 3000 rev / min. The voltage should thus be from 13 to 14.5 V. This indicates normal operation of the generator and the voltage regulator. Power generator (onboard pressure) must be higher than the operating voltage to the battery when the vehicle is again charged.
5. Check the stability of the voltage regulator. To do this, turn on the high beam and repeat the measurement at 3000 rev / min. Received voltage must not be higher than the previously obtained value by more than 0.4 V.
6. If the value is beyond the set value, turn the generator and controller for repair service station.
