Maintenance rear drum brakes

Removal and dismantling

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Poddomkratte back of the car and establish it on props. Block wedges both front wheels.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and brake drum.
  3. In case of problems, screw two bolts M8 x 1.25 mm in the screw holes in the drum and gradually tighten, pushing the drum flange axis.
  4. To ease assembly try to remember adjusting position of components of the brake mechanism.
  5. Squeeze the spring rails fastening shoes on a brake board, rotate through 90 ? and remove the holder (plate springs), and then remove the brake assembly spring seat springs and fingers (the components of the drum brake of the rear wheel is shown in an accompanying illustration).
1 - Finger
2 - shoe
3 - Bracket
4 - the top coupling spring
5 - an adjusting strap
6 - adjusting spring
7 - Seat
8 - guide spring
9 - holders
10 - the bottom coupling spring
  1. Disconnect from the shoe bottom coupling spring and caliper brake assembly.
  2. Disconnect and remove the top coupling spring.
  3. Dilute the upper ends of the shoes to the side, away from the wheel cylinder pistons, then remove the shoes from a brake board.
  4. Remove the shoe adjusting spring and spacer bar.
  5. If you are going to replace the shoes, remove the inside of the shoe lock ring and the adjusting bracket.
  6. Disconnect the brake line from the wheel cylinder, give fixing bolts and remove the cylinder from a brake board.
  7. Remove the anthers of the wheel cylinder pistons, sleeves and springs.

Cleaning and checking the status of components

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Please rate the degree of wear of the friction linings of brake shoes. If the thickness of the lining is less than the allowable (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), replace them or install new shoes.
  2. If the residual thickness of the lining does not go beyond the norm, inspect them for signs of contamination with oil or grease, in the case of those - replace.

Replacement pads made complete by four.

  1. Check the brake drums for cracks, scratches, burrs and the emergence of roundness. If necessary pierce drums or replace them.
  2. Rinse the components of the wheel cylinder with methyl alcohol, and then dry them with compressed air.
  3. Check the pistons and the cylinder mirror on presence of cavities and signs of wear. If necessary othoninguyte cylinder or replace the defective components.

In the disassembled wheel cylinder, remove the valve and check the pumping patency. It is mandatory to replace the rubber dust caps and seals of the pistons.

  1. Compare the tensile force of the return springs of brake shoes with those for new ones, if necessary, replace the spring.
  2. Make sure that the ratchet wheel to rotate freely on the adjustment expander strap. Screw it on the bar until it stops.

Assembly and installation

Installation is the reverse order of removal.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Lubricate the cylinder bore, pistons and seals with clean brake fluid.
  2. Put the cuffs on the Pistons sponge inside the cylinder. Make sure the correct location of the cuff in the grooves of the pistons.
  3. Lower the assembly of the piston with a cuff to a clean brake fluid, then insert it into the wheel cylinder. Make sure that the cuff not sponges were turned out in the process of setting out. Install the spring and repeat for the second piston with a cuff. Put on the wheel cylinder on both sides of anthers.
  4. Install the wheel cylinder to the brake shield. Screw and tighten with demanded effort fixing bolts.
  5. Make cross the brake pipe, then connect it to the wheel cylinders.
  6. Where you want to set the adjustment bracket and the retaining ring from the inside of the shoe and connect to both the shoe expander adjustment bar and spring.
  7. Dilute to the upper ends of the shoes, so they are not caught in the piston assembly and set the shoes on a board of the brake mechanism.
  1. Replace the shield fingers, saddle rails and spring brake shoes. Squeeze the spring, put brackets (plates) and turn them to fix the components by 90 ?. The components of the drum brake assembly shown in the accompanying illustration.
  1. Connect to the shoe upper and lower locking spring.
  2. Turn the ratchet wheel adjustment expander strap shoes pinch together so that they were part of the drum with a gap of about 0.25 ÷ 0.40 mm.
  3. Bleed the hydraulic brake system, set the wheels and lower the car to the ground.
  4. Make car trial runs, checking serviceability of its inhibition.
